going to buy a power inverter in a couple days, it will be used to run laptop, charge camera and camcorder batteries, and possibly run a gaming system (ie xbox)
is a 1000 watt suffiecent for these needs ive found a pretty good deal on one and woundering if its big enough for my needs
We ran 1000 W inverters in our Progressive claims vehicles -- we charged a camera battery, ran our laptop, and a laser printer constantly and sometime plugged several laptops in at a time.. it will be PLENTY!!!
An apartment sized refrigerator full of Natty in the back of your Ex! :thumb: Question- When putting in a power inverter, are there some other things that must be done?? Alternator upsizing, etc, etc?? Seems like i read on here somewhere that using an inverter while idling can cause premature wear on certain electrical items on the truck. Help me on this Stumpy, cause I am TERRIBLE at remebering what I have read. Thanks!!
our Progressive vehicles were stock Escapes.... but they do cause premature wear if you forget to turn the off all the time and ruin your battery!!!
LOL. Maybe thats what I read. Killing batteries with an inverter. Heck, I dont remember! When my hairline started sliding off the back of my head, it took my remembering abilities with it!
no need for dual alternator unless running a crap tun of audio and electronics in ur vehicle. ive seen plenty big stereo;s in cars with no extra alternator. common sense prevails
hey stump check these out. they are fairly priced Costco search results for "power inverter"
i got this for my birthday last year. i also have power outlets outside the truck.
For flexability, use an short extension cord! The Ex is not that big... I think the 800 I have (yet to put in) requires hardwiring, but yes, the smaller 300's and 400's that float around the cab now are just Cig Plugs...
As long as you have decent air flow, mount it down and hardwire it!
I have a 400W right next to the batteries, and run a longer 110 cord, any dc volt lost can make the unit beep. I found a 75W in a 12V plug much more practicle. With it, I run my LCD TV, Cable box, and all DC stuff in my trailer much longer before having to charge the batteries.
