I'm looking to get an sct tuner with custom tunes. The thing is that I don't want a tremendous amount of smoke. I know that you will get more smoke than stock  but which of the custom tunes will produce the most power with the least amount of smoke.

Thanks
Warren

talk to Vivian at Dj's and she will help you out. i am running their street tune right now and it doesnt smoke too bad unless you really mash on the pedal.

Superchips compared to a custom SCT? Not even in the same ball game. There is a reason some custom tunes smoke on the low end. They are written that way to reduce turbo lag. Giving the engine a little extra fuel down low before the turbo spools will help with bottom end blues. The great thing about a custom Xcal2 is, it is whatever you want it to be. You call us or DJ, Elite, GO GO, John Woods, Matt Gouge...whoever, and tell them what you want. If its not quite right...pick up the phone and talk about it. I would never say Superchips is a bad product, I sell it everyday with confidence, but as far as precise tuning is concerned you can't beat custom tunes.

send this exact post to a tuner of your choice and WALLA, you have yourself a custom tune.

All that black smoke is wasted fuel. I don't believe it is a necessity more than people just like to see it billow out of the exhaust. I think it's cool too, but not all the time! That will kill your mileage if you drive aggressively. My point is Superchips takes more time to refine their programming to where you get minimal smoke, a light puff to get the turbo boosting and you're off like a rocket without a ploom of black smoke behind ya.

The versatility of custom tunes is awesome, but once I buy a tuner I don't want to dish out more money for what I would consider a "proper" high performance tune without all the wasted fuel.

Good Morning,

I have learned that some trucks will smoke naturally (it's a diesel thing), while others will smoke very little. We offer a street smoke tune which was described to me as it converting the truck into a mosquito fogging truck but that is what the customer was looking for, thus custom tuning.

We don't offer smoke features in our Looney because the Looney is a performance tune. We also offer unlimited tuning so you don't have to pay more for a performance tune or any other tune for that matter.

Patrick is right. Pick an SCT tuner or several. Tell them what you are looking for and they will accommodate.

Thanks,
Vivian

Agreed, the high performance programs will smoke until the turbo spools. This is due to the extra fuel required for a high performance program. Once the turbo is spooled up, the smoke turns to a gray haze at best.

In a diesel, there isn't a direct air metering device to allow real precise fuel adjustment. You can get it really close, but if you want to lay down high power, you have to have the fuel there.

That being said, normal performance programs can be built to exhibit very little smoke. The beauty of custom tuning is being able to adjust the programs for your needs. :thumb:

Based on my history, Don't get the Superchips if you don't want smoke! On the Hi performance setting 150hp you get smoke no problem. I now have the ID SCT custom Street tune which puts out more power and have almost no smoke at all and runs circles around the Superchips. On the same truck no other changes. And the trans feels a whole lot better/firmer too. At 1st I didn't want to spend the xtra and get the SCT since I already had the Superchips now there is now way I would live without it.
Just my 2cents

The custom tunes are the only way to go. I have four tunes from Innovative Diesel and the only one that smokes is the extreme street and it will not smoke if I drive normal. I do not know if it makes a diffrence because I have a 6speed and can feather the clutch compared to an automatic. Besides them not smoking it is hard for me to get the EGT's up to 1200*.
