Window Tinting

I intend on tinting my windows in my 08 F250 Crew Cab. The back windows (doors and rear glass) already have a factory tint. I have read that some of the modern window tints have metal in them that can interfere with electronics in the vehicle. I use a Garmin GPS Street-finder all the time and a satellite radio. Does anyone have any suggestions? Better still does anyone know a good installer in the Tampa Florida area?

almost all tint is metalized now, it prevents fading. if it fades it turns purple, you dont want that. you will be fine with the metalized. i have run electronics in my old trucks before and never had any issues with interferance. if you are going to match the tint to the factory shade you have really nothing to worry about. i dont know about the tint that has a chrome look to it, but the regular black tint should be no problem for you.:thumb:

I just had my 08 Crew Cab Lariat tinted on the front windows. I spoke with 2 tinting shop companies and did considerable research over the INTERNET. What I understand is the 35% rear window and 50% front window rating is 35% of light transmitting through the rear windows and 50% through the front windows. I put a 30% tint on my front windows only in Florida. That is allowed by Florida law. According to both shop owners if I tinted the rear doors and window (crew cab) that I would have difficulty seeing through the windows at night in rural areas without street lights. I tow a boat and put in at boat ramps at night and the shops recommended I did not tint my rear doors or rear window (I already have factory privacy glass on the rear doors and rear window.) I used a Llumar ATR 30 tint. It is supposed to be one of the best available and has a lifetime warranty. Bottom line is if you have factory privacy glass on the rear doors and rear window do not tint them if you need to see clearly in the dark in rural areas. I would also strongly recommend you do some research and find a good reputable tinting company in your area that has been in business for a long time. There is nothing worse than a shabby window tinting job!!

My brother ran into this dilema with his 07 Chevy silverado (I know )

They tried to tell him the metal tint would interfere with the Tire pressure sensors and all sorts of junk... needless to say he has 5% metal tint and not a problem at all...

I just had my front two windows and the windshield strip done to match the rears -- is a family truck and wasn't a need to go much darker..

Power Windows?

That is so simple. Why didn't I think of that? Of course if you live in Florida like I do where the temperature is well over 90 degrees with about 90% humidity you do not ride with the windows down. You have the air conditioner full blast all the time. We also seem to get a lot of rain. Sometimes if you have to react quickly there is not time to power down the rear door windows or rear slide. The 30% tint is very close to the factory privacy glass that is on the rear doors and window. Thanks for the tip though. :D

I got 35% which is the law in TN on the front 2 and 5% on the 2 side back & very back windows, also a strip on the front. I can see ok at night it is not as bad as I thought it would be. and if you have to look behind you use the side mirrors, cause the front ones are easy to see through at 35%. Also if you turn around and look back it is much easier to see than looking in the mirror.

I put 15% all the way around and have had no problem with it. It seems to be just clear enough to see at night, even when there is no other ambient light other than my headlights.
