Gents,

Just purchased a 21' Galaxie Boat Works Bowrider with a tandem axle trailer. I am guessing that the combination weights 4,000 lbs-ish. This is the first time I have pulled a trailer with this boat. Loved the Tow/Haul mode for deceleration but I felt that it was inconvient for accelerations. It seemed to hold the gear for an accessive amount of time (I know thats not real specific). Most of the trip was is Kansas so it wasn't much beyond rolling hills. The majority of the trip was on 65mph highways.

Do I even NEED to use Tow/Haul mode with this light of a load?

Just curious if this is normal? Also, according to my lie o meter I was getting 10.5 mpg. It usually reads around 15-16 mpg.

Interested in your thoughts...

Thanks
Thad

You don't really need to use it with that light of a load and even if you are using it, when you get to cruising on the highway unless you've got some good sized hills or pulls turn it off.

Ditto on the don't worry about it.

Sounds one sided...

Thanks guys! Again, I do love the way it downshifts but I guess I can just turn it on when I need to slow down.

About what is the weight where you would turn the t/h mode on?
There is no universal answer for that, it depends on the type of towing you're doing such as flat highway or mountainous roads, and how hard you are pushing your truck.

You can try it both ways when you tow and whichever feels more comfortable should be good. I would estimate that I use it most of the time when towing over 5000 lbs. but I have also towed my 12,000 lb. toyhauler without it on while on flat ground and it worked just fine!

And I also switch it on sometimes while not towing anything just to help slow the truck down without having to use the brakes as much.

I found that my lie-o-meter was even more out to lunch when towing, it was close at times when empty.

I use my t/h when I am slowing down even empty.

I use mine anytime I'm towing my landscaping trailer. I don't know how much it weighs but it's a 16' with a big zturn and a walk behind and all the accessories. I don't imagine it weighs to much but I like the downshifting.

When i tow my boat (same size as your) I use it with my street tune. I just like the way it is set up with my tune. If I have my Galaxie on the back, I am in my tow tune with tow/haul on always!
