Attention EDGE Insight Users

Over the past couple of days, with much research and experiments, I have come to a conclusion. The Edge Insight will not monitor boost correctly. I have both an analog boost gauge (tapped into the intake elbow) and an Edge Insight. When rolling into the throttle in 5th, I can peg my 35 PSI analog gauge but my Insight will read 27-29 PSI. Here is the reason:

When using an SCT w/ custom tunes, the custom tune has a built in 'boost fooler', in a way. It fools the computer into reading proper boost numbers so that it will not defuel. The stock tuning will defuel with any boost over 29 PSI. Since the Insight reads the parameters from the stock computer, it is reading the fooled reading. Many people with Insights have claimed there boost has topped out at 28-29 PSI, but that is incorrect.

Point in case, if you are concerned with reading your boost correctly, get an analog gauge and tap into your intake elbow.

I just thought I'd share that tid bit of info. :thumb:

Very interesting. There was a guy in my tech school that had a cummins  and had a 2 1/16" electronic boost gauge and a Quadzilla programer. Well he told me that he could make 50 psi of boost on his stock turbo no problem. I figured something along the lines of what you said were goin on. When I tried to tell him this...

Thats a triple  kid and I gave up!

Thanks for the info/research :thumb:

i had an 01 cummins that had an quadzilla adrenaline and 150s and i could get the stock turbo up to 47lbs analog gauges as well

This also applies to the stock boost gauge on the '05+ MY trucks. :thumb:

aghh crap :banging:

I've always had a suspiction that i was makeing more than 29 :tard:

Boost gauge on the way:thumb:
Keep us updated on when your boost gauge comes in. i wanna know wat kinda boost that power max is making with the 190s puching it too.

You were actually the first person I thought of. I wanna see what that PowerMax will actually push. :thumb:

LOL Matt! I was reading an old thread on boost foolers and custom tunes and it finaly clicked.

It seems to me that a person writing the tunes also has control over when and if to defuel your truck as well. When I go wide open throttle I only see 22 psi or so with Matt's tune. If I roll into the throttle in a higher gear with lower rpm it will build to 30 psi (this is on my stock boost gauge on my 05) Could it be that Ford is is only using a 2 bar map sensor?

#11 ·
Hmmm... Maybe... Not sure about the 2 bar MAP sensor, I will have to do some research.

#20 ·
Isn't his a 6-speed though? And was it on the stock tune?

I'd be willing to bet there is either a problem with the tune or the truck. Most will defuel if it sees of 30 PSI.

bull#### then for sure

Ryans is an excursion with an auto and that was on a diablosport programmer.

The insight will read over 29 psi boost. So will the factory gauge

It will also read over 29 psi boost on a custom tune.

This isnt a 7.3 there is no need to fool the PCM. With a 6.0 you can change the upper limit in the programming.

It hit 30+ psi a couple times a week on the way to work. Just something I do to insure the vanes are not sticking:hehe:

Maybe the custom tune just makes it read lower so that it will not defuel?

Because my manual gauge will peg at 35 PSI but my Insight will read 29 PSI and not go over.

#23 ·
Where is your manual gauge installed?

What tune are you hitting 35psi in?

Custom tune does not make it read lower

#24 ·
so why does mine stop at 29? With stock injectors stock turbo it hits 29 and stops.... stock injectors and aftermarket turbo hits 29 and stops... with 190cc injectors and aftermarket turbo hits 29 really fast and stops. I have NEVER seen 30psi in my truck with any tune.

whats up there? :dunno:

#27 ·
Which parameter are you guys that wont read over 29psi selecting to read boost?

#29 ·
Which parameter is selected on the evo? Which version of the EVO?

#31 ·
Ok that makes a difference. IIRC the old style was only capable of reading to 30psi
