Do optimal rpms change with a programmer?

I've seen a couple threads here talking about MPG efficiency. Several people have stated that they see the best MPG when their RPMs are in the 2000-2250 range. Is that the going concensus of a good range to target RPMs at?

Using the Juice on my 6.0l, I'm not seeing 2000 RPMs until around 76 MPH. I don't hit 2250 until around 86 MPH. I bought the truck used, and I *think* it was regeared, but I'm not sure. Can I run my truck at 76-86 MPH for the best MPG? If so, you've just made me a very very happy trucker!

I have an '01 7.3 with 3.73's and my best mileage is just under 2000 - around 1800-1900 @ 65-68 MPH.. . I can get about 19-20 MPG at that speed if all I do is drive highway ---- that was completely stock.

keep it under 2000 rpms and 500 EGT or so and you'll see your best mileage. Also keep your programmer set up on its highest power levels... If you can keep your foot out of it that'll help a lot too.

But, as I've stated, under 2000 RPMs for me is 75MPH! I can run that and still get good MPG?! That's a dream come true!

****, Blue01F250, I'd do a happy dance right in the fillup station if I got 19-20. But, with a 6" lift, and 35" tires, it probably ain't gonna happen...

lol - yah - but i drive a 2wd with stock size tires ;)

as for adding a programmer - i'll have to let you know when I get the funds to add one.. lol and this truck has definately slowed me down on the highway - trying to see how good of mileage I can get! Its a challenge! :D

Oh, I know the price for all the stuff I will end up putting on my truck will take years to make up in gas savings... but it is nice to have the power - keep EGT's down - and still get better mileage.

If MPG were all I was after, I definately wouldn't have already dropped $400 on an Intake and Exhaust.. :)

Programmer has absolutely nothing to do with RPM vs speed - that the rear end ratio. Heck, with my 4.30 gears, I hit 2000RPM at 60MPH, 2250RPM is a tad under 70.

Almost appears that the previous owner of your truck dropped down to 3.55 gears as my friend with the 3.73 gears sees 2000RPM at 70MPH.

You don't have to drive it at 2000RPM, you want to keep it under 2000RPM for best milage. When I keep mine at around 1500RPM (about 45), I get better milage than I do at 60.
