Noticed last night my trusty '04 is leaking a bit of anti-freeze on the shop floor. Looked up in there real quick, couldn't see anything obvious. It's got 59,000 miles on it, just gets used here around the farm. Anybody got any ideas?
It's on the drivers side. Looks to be a pump next to the crank pulley/damper. Don't know if it's an auxiliary water pump or what. Pump body is wet with coolant and dripping down on to the crossmember.
Lower radiator hose at radiator - it can rub on the steering linkage if its worked off a bit
Thermostat housing - o-ring can fail, housing can fail, hose connection can fail
Upper radiator hose at radiator - hose connection
Both upper and lower hoses...squeeze them - they shouldn't be mushy, pliable yes but not too easy to squeeze - look for signs of cracking
Also look in the degas bottle and make sure that there isn't any sign of oil in the coolant.
Pull a sample of oil and coolant and have them spectrometal analyzed if you're concerned about a failure of the oil cooler's o-rings
Don't use stop-leak or equivalent
Sometimes if the engine is still warm you can see or hear a stream of compressed coolant if there is a pin-hole leak (be careful...that stuff is hot!)
Of course you could check the EGR cooler (but that's not driver side although since the hose is hidden pretty good that could be the source of the leak...it's not uncommon)
