So I bought my first diesel. It's an 04 Excursion 4X4 6.0 turbo diesel. I bought it because I haul a 4k lb boat often 100 miles each way to the lake on the weekends. My F-150 wasn't cutting it getting 7 MPG.... I'm looking to do some mods but want to do things that will help towing and gas mileage. I drive about 12 miles each way to work everyday in-town driving. My question is what can I do to increase my mileage and towing and keep my daily driving gas mileage up as well. I don't want to spend over $1k on the mods I do unless I can justify the expense... I plan on keeping this EX until the wheels fall off so I don't want to do anything that will shorten the life of my EX.
I've been told the Xzillaraider is a good way to go. I don't know anything about these though???
Stump, not to sound REALLY dumb but if I go to an exhaust shop and tell them 4" turbo back they'll know what I'm trying to say? What about a muffler? Leave the stock on there or take it all off and go straight? guages and then an sct tuner what type of guages and what brand of sct would you think would fit my needs?
I suggest you straight pipe that thing and dump it right before the rear wheel. you'll love the sound. if you don't wanna run gauges up the pillar you can look into the bullydog outlook monitor or the quadzilla commander monitor. they are digital displays that allow you to monitor more then 3 parameters but some might say they don't "look as good" as the pillar gauges. BUT, they will defuel your truck if you reach a certain set max egt that you can decide on. I don't think the pillar gauges do that. the commander is the more popular one. good luck and welcome!
it would really be alot cheaper to buy an exhaust from a site vendor and install it your self, at a shop you will pay an arm and a leg im sure.
if you choose to run a muffler a free flowingf after market muffler will be the way to go, or you can get a pipe that deletes the muffler and catalitic converter
the guages are you preference i use a monitor that shows 4 rreadings at once , or you can go with analog guages in a pillar mount, the very least you should have, pyro, boost, and tranny temp
the sct is a box you plug up to your obdII port that draws out the factory setting and inserts custom written files, that really liven up your rig, and when you want to put it back to stock just plug it up and undo the tuning.
there are a few tuners on the site that can write any type of file you like, from economy, towing , racing and anywhere in between
Welcome to the Site! I see that you have already got some good advice. Congratulations on your PSD. :welcome1:
