Well I should have known that going to look for a front bumper in a junk yard was a very bad idea............and it was.
So can y'all point me in the direction of some after market bumper sites? I have looked at Craig's list and Ebay so I have an idea of what some of the nicer stuff is running.
Thanks,
Craig
No other ideas????? I have checked all over the D/FW area and internet and I am looking at 899.99 - 1400.00 for a BUMPER!!!!!! LMC truck has a shiny chrome replacement for 139.00 but not what I am wanting or needing.
Craig
how about Welcome to Road Armor They build some nice stuff. But again your gonna pay for it. But with your price range I am sure they have something for you.
Road Armor 1400.00 6 - 8 week delivery. J.C. Whitney has the chrome replacements which I am trying to get away from. No idea about the Ford dealership didn't even think about them carrying an after market bumper.
Thanks for the input though.
Craig
What Stump said - IronHorse is made in Houston . A few of the guys on here have bought from them because the price and quality are awesome. Mine is HUGE because I wanted serious functionality in a winch bumper for working the ranch but they make ones that are much sleeker. Check 'em out, you might be impressed.
Just a thought but run by a weld shop and tell them what you are looking for, you might be surprised that they can build what you want alot cheaper than if you were to just buy one, just a thought
Talked with Steve at Iron Horse. I am going to go ahead and use his shop after talking to him for a little while on the phone. Still a pricey bumper for me, but as my truck is a keeper I am filing it under "capital improvement". In a couple of months I am going to replace the rear bumper with a matching one from him as well.
All in all with the help of some members on this site I am going to be investing a bit into the ol' beast. Brakes (upgrade), A/C, bumpers, I will post pictures as things are accomplished.
Thanks for all of the input on the bumper and help in general.
Craig
Good deal Craig - hey you see how my "investment" in an IronHorse paid for itself the other day when that Lexus and I had our run in. I'd hate to see the damage to my rig had I not had it.
Hey Alan,
I got a good chuckle out of that. From the pictures you posted all I could see was scuffed up powder coating. Nothing else bent or broke? I opted out of the winch mount on the front of the truck. I am just going with the receiver hitch up front. I am figuring that if/when I get a winch I'll put it on a mount that slides into the receiver. What are your thoughts on that? I still have time to change my mind. What are the pos / negs of going this route?
Thanks,
Craig
Ok - cool. The only problem that I have with that is 99.99% of the time when you need a winch, you weren't expecting it. Most people who use the hitch style only carry the winch when they feel they're going to be in a off-road situation and it's not always that cut and dry. Heck you could help someone on your way to work but if you don't carry it all the time it's not as functional. Now I will say though that the ability to take if off the front and move it to the back is a big plus. I've got a snatch block though so I can winch from different angles if I need to - but that's something extra I have to carry. It's all about preference. You can't go wrong either way.
