I was just wondering, my tuner is a Superchips. So I guess I'll just unplug it.
What's the proceedure when unplugging it, cold engine for sure.. but will it remain completely closed?
I used to have a superchips flashpaq and with thier optional redline tune (122hp) it disables the egr.. other than that the only other one i know of is an SCT..
Disabling the EGR valve won't do much for you. It's the EGR cooler that needs to be bypassed. With just the valve disabled you still have hot exhaust gases going to the cooler that can still flash boil the coolant and puke it out the overflow. Mine did, even with my SCT having the EGR turned off. That's why I put on an EGR bypass pipe from Elite Diesel while the head studs were being put in. No chance of puking now. With the pipe in place the EGR valve is still functioning, it's just not doing anything.
The exhaust gas doesn't pressurize the cooling system. The way the EGR system works is, exhaust gas flows from the up-pipe through the EGR cooler(which is cooled by the cooling system) to the EGR valve. Where a portion of that exhaust is dumped back into the intake tract to be reburned by the engine. EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Even if you block off the EGR valve, the exhaust gas still goes into the cooler. If that exhaust gas gets REAL hot, then the coolant that is trying to cool that cooler flash-boils and pukes it out the coolant reservoir. The only way to completely eliminate coolant puking is to bypass the cooler altogether.
Got an intall proceedure for the bypass pipe install?
So the puking is because of an over pressurization of the EGR cooler, which is cooled by the main cooling system. OK. But doesnt having the EGR disabled reduce the likelyhood of that over pressurization?
Its not an overpressurization, as the coolant and exhaust gas don't interact. Its a matter of the exhaust gas making the cooler super hot, and the coolant, that's trying to cool the cooler, boils. And when the coolant boils, it expands. And when it expands, it has nowhere to go, so it pushes past the coolant recovery bottle cap and spills all over the ground.
Even though the EGR valve isn't working. All that hot exhaust gas is still going to it, and running through the cooler to get there.
I had my EGR valve disabled, and mine still puked.
I can't tell you how to do the EGR delete pipe when the cab is still on. Sorry.
Another thing I'm wondering is when do you know the head gasket needs changed?
Mine has puked, but it does not use coolant. How much does it take to get the dealer to replace the gaskets and install studs?
The turbo was stuck wide open causing an over boost condition. It was creating way more boost than it should have been and that caused the puking.
I know the dealer can do the gaskets, but what will it take to get them to?
I don't want to have to bring it back again and again.
