So I am in the market for a 99-03 7.3L. However, I am looking for a crew cab, 4x4, and manual transmission. I am having a helluva time finding something like this in FL, which is where I plan on purchasing since I live in the Virgin Islands. So I have been searching auto trader and ebay and I found this on ebay: Ford : F-250: eBay Motors (item 260668599730 end time Oct-14-10 20:42:17 PDT)
If I could get the seller to accept an offer of $10,000, which is the most I can spend on a truck, do you think this is a good buy? Buying a truck off ebay goes against all my good judgement, but it seems like the only place to find what I am looking for. The only thing about this truck that worries me is the high mileage, although I know these trucks can go forever, and the gooseneck. Other than that it looks very clean and has everything I am looking for. So any input is appreciated.
Also, are there any states that are more likely to have manual ford diesels than others?
looks like a pretty clean truck for the most part, judging from the bed id say it has seen alot of work. but hey if u can get it for the right price might not be too bad of a deal.
I feel your pain!! I had the same specs for the truck I wanted. I looked forever and had to settle with 2wd and an automatic. I don't think 10000 would be a horrible price as long as engine, suspension, etc.. Check out good. Good luck!!!
looks like a nice truck but so many guys want manual 7.3s that the dealers know what they got and they don't come down very much on the price. your better off finding a private sale truck. Honestly, I think (and no offense to anybody who is a salesman on here) 99% of dealers will rip you off in a heartbeat. and for $40, you can get five carfax reports. You can also go to any ford dealer and they can run the VIN and tell you any dealer work that has ever been performed on the truck.
as long as you've done your research, you shouldn't worry too much about buying off of Ebay. I've purchased several cars (and have sold a few as well) with no issues. The only people I know who have had issues are those who didn't buy a carfax report, or, if they did, dig into the listed issues.
Seems like a nice truck, but i think you can find better??
I dont like short beds. and Its seems like this trucks seen some pretty knarly stuff.
Remember if you cant drive to see it and look at is with your eyes, then who knows wat youll find when you acctually buy it.
Thanks for the replies, I gave up on the one i posted above. e99f2506p - I am on St. Croix. I am now interested in this truck Ford : F-350 - eBay (item 110596810736 end time Oct-15-10 18:00:00 PDT). It doesn't have 4x4 which is kind of a bummer, but I spoke to the seller and he said that $7,000 is his reserve and I could get it shipped to FL for $350. He says the paint is new and the undercarriage has some rust but not bad. this truck has low miles and vinyl floor mats which are a plus to me. It a pretty basic truck but for the low mileage, this thing has the potential to last for awhile. Can anyone chime in here on their impressions of this truck. Thanks for the help.
Cool. I'd really like to go to the usvi some day, I've had my eye on St John for a while just for its size and lack of commercialization. Not sure why, I've always been a midwesterner, but for some reason the island looks like itd be a fun vacation.
I've seen the roads on St. John, you sure you want to give up the 4wd? I know Croix is bigger, so are all the roads more 2wd friendly? I wouldn't give up the manual either (I love mine here) as itd be nice to have the engine help with the slowing, those hills look like they'd be hell on brakes, auto trannys, and clutches...
Good luck. As far as buying a truck on ebay, I've bought 2 and sold one on ebay, no problems so far. You've got more to be concerned about than we do here in the states just cause you have to ship it and its an expensive trip back if they screw you over, but if you find the right truck, you should be fine.
that 2nd one looks like an odometer roll back to me...numbers are lining up in obscure pattern and it looks like the maintenance and upkeep are nill to boot
stay away from trucks that have been painted and IMO i wouldnt buy off ebay!..if u were looking for a newer truck (2007) with really low miles (like 40k or less) then ebay wouldnt be soo bad. but in that price range u will find alot of trucks that have been abused and not taken care of properly! and i would have to agree a truck that has rust underneath and been repainted but only 95k miles..I DONT THINK SOOO just hold out and try to find something semi local..i drove 4 hours one time to buy a truck and it was an awesomeeee deal, but beforee i wasted my gas i had the guy send me a zillion pics! dont jump into a truck that u wont be happy with...hold out for that one u want and dont give up 4x4 if anything give up the manual and find an auto! good luck !!!
Many good points there SOCAL. I will most likely wait on buying a truck I can actually drive first and look everything over. I'll be going up to Florida in November so hopefully I can find what I'm looking for.
The islands are nice, been doing the island thing for awhile now. I've lived on Kauai, St. Thomas, Tortola, and now St. Croix - been to St. John many times. St. John is cool, 2/3 of the island was bought by Henry Rockefeller and donated to the government to be preserved as a national park, so St. John is not very developed outside of Cruz Bay. I could go on and on about how enjoyable and different island living is but that's for another forum. But you are right about the roads - steep and many hairpin turns. St. Croix is the least steep but I still want 4wd and manual. I am actually hoping a well kept OBS will turn up because then I can use the 2nd fuel tank for WVO. Its so warm here, I'd be stupid not to run a little veg oil once and awhile. I'll jut have to keep looking- I know its out there, just have to find it.
Yeah I read about St John being a national park, thats a big reason I was attracted to it. I don't mind hearing about how island life is. We'll never be able to live there (what do you do for work anyway) but could us making long vacations there and island hopping. Which of the islands do you like better and what made you decide on Croix? Sorry for all the questions but we've always wanted to go to St John and finding someone so close is pretty rare.
As far as finding the right truck... I also wanted a 4wd manual, but it also had to be an extended cab and be black with the 7.3 and I really wanted a long bed, but settled for the short bed after I found the truck I have. It took me 2 years to find the right truck because I didn't want to settle on something...I've done that in the past.
I am still looking for the perfect truck. I decided a crew cab isn't a requirement. I found one on ebay I like and the seller said they would except 10,900. Can anyone chime in on this one and tell me what you think, worth the money? Ford : F-250 - eBay (item 260703296160 end time Dec-08-10 14:14:18 PST)
I wonder if getting a longbed is overkill and might be a regret. I mostly will be using this as a surf/kiteboard/fish vehicle and to hual trash, water, and small landscaping tools around. Is the maneuverability a pain on the longbed? Once again thanks for the help!
That K&N sticker on the airbox is a warning. The dropin filters do not fit or filter
well (non of the oil gauze filters do). If it was ran in a dusty area the engine
could be dusted.
Yeah, I noticed the K&N sticker and have read on here that they are not the best filters. The truck appears to have lived most of its life in Colorado which I don't think is known for dust. Anyone else have some input?
I feel your pain with looking for just the right truck. I looked for 2 years for the exact truck i was looking for, and for the price I was wanting to spend. Also for what it is worth in my experience my supercab longbed turned so much worse than my current crew cab short bed.
