I Have A 2004 6.0 Psd, And I Have Heard Several Guys Mention On Here About Deleting The Egr Or Simply Just Unplugging It. What Is The Purpose For Doing This. More Power? Better Response? Just Wondered If It Would Be Worth Doing On A Stock Truck Or Is It Done In Conjunction With Another Mod? Thanks Guys For The Info. And Really Love The Site.
Theres no performance gains with this, but the purpose of deleting/unplugging the EGR is to eliminate all the issues people have with it. If you unplug it while the truck is shut off then the valve will never open while in operation. There by not sending all the extra soot right back in to the engine to burn off. The EGR is nothing but a pain in these trucks, getting rid of it actually be good for your engine. The only thing to be aware of is if you unplug it it will put on your SES light and throw a code, but it won't drive any different, you just have to live with the check engine light.
i unplugged mine and it threw a code, so i put it back on and cleared the code, i am a little wierd with my truck, so i just put it all back to where it should be, i havent had any issues with it since.
You're better off turning the EGR off in the programming with a device like the SCT Xcalibrator or Livewire. When you unplug the connection, it actually causes a fault and different tables are used in the programming.
The EGR delete pipe works very well and I always recommend it on high power trucks. If you have emissions testing, the programming may be the way to go. You can return to stock programming and in turn, activate your EGR.
I have your programming in my SCT. Which I believe, when I ordered it, I had you turn it off for me. I just figured since I'm gonna have the cab off the truck to stud the heads, I'd add the pipe for some extra insurance. How hard would it be to put the stock pipe back on later if for some reason it didn't pass smog? Or am I being overly concerned?
I'd install the EGR delete while you have the heads off. It's not hard to do after the fact, if you want to swap it out. It's just timing consuming.
1. Pull off the passenger side wheel.
2. Pull out the fender lining.
3. Have a ratchet with a 3ft extension or combination of extensions.
4. It'll take a few hours to pull it out and replace.
just block off the EGR cooler, or does it bypass the EGR valve and the cooler?
