My 05 has over 200,000 miles on it. And one morning it made tons of white smoke but it eventually spit it out and was fine. Carried on for about a week , and finally took it in Mechanic said it was egr system. Is the white smoke a symptom of egr? If not any ideas
There are EGR delete kits out there. Some guys do it , and others have a dealer or a good diesel tech do it. I had the same problem with mine! I would advise to get it fixed pretty quick, hence it can lead to alot of other costly problems!
What are the other problems it leads to? Just curious since mine is showing some signs of this and I'm a long way from home. Wondering how far it's ok to drive it. Don't want to sit in a hotel while it gets done, but also don't want to blow up my van.
Since you are there, you should look into replacing your oil cooler because that is generally the cause of what makes your EGR cooler go bad. I put a EGR delete kit on mine but my temps were running high. Turned out my oil cooler had a good percentage of blockage. They are known to go bad. I spent the $$$$ and went with a Bulletproof Diesel oil cooler and have not regretted it. Lifetime warranty.
Obviously the Bulletproof design includes the oil cooler. I'm asking because visually the design of the EGR is drastically different between the two models.
Their EGR delete looks just like the original so if you need to take it to Ford to have them work on your truck, it will look like no modes were done. The Sinister EGR delete looks obviously different and you can see that when you lift the hood and look at it. That's my thinking.
In my opinion make sure you get a delete kit with the factory twist lock hose. Some kits out there want you use hose clamps instead of factory hose. Takes to much time to fix if clamps leak. :thumb:
received the bullet proof delet and oil cooler kit and started tearing into it Oh boy lots of pieces in that kit and no instructions. Hope I can get it together
