Yes it is...impossible to get the cross member off that goes under the pan unless the motor is out. The member has to come off to get the pan off. Pulling the motor is the only option
a friend of mine did it with out completely pulling the motor, but he did lift the cab so he could lift the motor up like 12", I've heard its best to pull it out and turn the motor upside down so you make sure you get a nice clean surface so it seals well
