I have an 06 f250, completely stock. Haven't ran the hypertech but maybe 600 miles, and haven't had it loaded up for about 4,000 miles since been taking it in to the dealer for maintenance, etc (easier to leave it off until all bugs get worked out). Anyways, several times driving, I have thought I've heard puking, but never realy known if it was. Today I looked at the overflow and it's definitely puked out around the cap before (has that cruddy looking foam around the overflow cap).
It's an O6, has the revised lower minimum mark on the cap. Level is right at the level to run on the cap.
Is this something I should take it in for? It's never gotten hot. How can you really tell from in the cab if it's puking?
how many miles are on your rig.I had the same problem with mine and it was head gaskets.Head bolts had streched something ford has been having a problem with.So it could be gaskets or egr cooler the coolers go bad alot.Yes I would take it to the dealer. But take off your computer mods first.
Sometimes you can smell the coolant on the inside if it pukes alot. But, I would take it in and have them check it out since all the fluid levels are good.
I will take it in. I ran the hypertech from 1000 to 1600 miles. After that, back to stock, and removed cables/reset computer. Now at 6800 miles. So long after. This puking type thing as far as I can tell started maybe 800 miles ago? I'll take it in...
You will notice fluid on the bottom side of the hood where the bottle is.Mine only leaked under high boost though. It started to get so bad I noticed it in my drivers wheel well and all over my track arm also some on out side of fender.I first thought it was brake fluid trying to quikly remove it from my paint but after lookin in to it a little closer noticed it was coolant. So took it to a helpfull dealer and they replaced the heads that were warped and the gaskets.Alls good now.when this happened my rig only had 4000 miles on it.So don't feel alone.Theres been alot of talk about this in alot of threads.
Yeah, pretty much anytime you really get in it, you have a chance to make it puke if it is going to. Specially if you are still running a stock configuration.
Chipping up a diesel will increase various things including manifold pressure (i.e. turbo boost).... The lower values in a stock motor will make it LESS likely to push out a headgasket...
Mine definitely wasn't that bad, but had formed some "crust" on top. I'll see if this fixes it. I thought it would have been EGR cooler, etc. But if this fixes it, I'm a happy man. This dealer has always treated me great, and I have no complaints on that end.
They did write up that pressure test resulted in pressure being lost at the cap. They also told me they test the degas bottle as one item, and then the rest of the system separately, to rule one/the other out.
I Have an F250 06 and do not have head studs. Its a 2006. I was told earlier that white smoke is normal for a diesel?.?.? Today while i was driving and my truck was in drive yet i was parked at a stop light... my truck was spittin some white smoke. When i accelreated, my truck dumped white smoke. What is going on and what should i do? Maybe blown head gaskets?
Diesels don't blow white smoke... You'll get black (dark grey perhaps) but not white or blue... White is usually an indication of water vapor (possibly the water in the coolant)....
Well, taking it in just got put off a few days. Truck got broken into at home last night, rear slider busted...so getting new rear glass today. And my three week old work laptop was missing, too. But doesn't it make you wonder when...it happened between 5 and 6am (I know, cause fiance left house at 5am for a gym appointment), then when she got home, it was busted...then I have a newspaper, neighbors on my left have paper, and neighbors on my right are complaining no paper got delivered...
HMM...
I think I'm going to go meet the paper boy in the morning.
Well the dealer called me back about the truck. The dealer states that the problem causing my truck to puke was a faulty radiator cap. What does everyone think of this? They said the cooling system pressure tested fine, however the cap did not test OK.
Does this sound reasonable? They said it's the second one with a bad cap they have seen in two weeks.
Chomme, my truck was taken in about a month ago for white smoke coming from the exhaust because the water level was low. I am pretty sure they told me the same thing and they replaced the cap. Doesn't make much sense but it's what they told me.

Ken....[/QUOTE]
Ok, this has happened before where the water level was empty, so i took it in to the dealer and they don't know why it emptied itself...
Well, I camped out. Paperboy delivered paper. Then drove back by really slow thru the neighborhood. After that heard an alarm next block over. And the kid was even bright enough that in my paper, the day it was delivered (the day I got broken in to...last paper on the route before he booked!) had an insert. Hi, my name is Wes yada yada yada...if you are happy about the service, call me. Made it easy for the sheriff's office to track him down!!!
sell it and buy something else I just went through this whole episode with my 05 6.0L. I say get it fixed, beat the piss out of it! Once you get to the end of the 100K warranty if you dont feel comfortable in it, buy a cummins or a duramax:thumb:
to each his own. The powerstroke is an awesome truck as long as you dont have to start paying for headgasket, turbo, and egr repair outside of warranty.
Mine and 04 F350 140k(no FMC warrenty) blew the gaskets, my mech said he wouldn't put the studs in, and it would void and warrenty they would give me on the gasket job. (not true) I ended up paying $7000, got heads(new) gaskets, new egr valve, new egr cooler, and several other items broken by a previous garage. All covered by a 12/12 warrenty. Good to go right? In less than 500 miles my truck started to consume coolant again, and is now back at the dealer.
If they pull the heads again, I'm demanding APR Studs, I'll pay for them, but I want this to end now, before I have to sell the POS.
Ford knows about the headbolt stretch problem, why are they still installing bolts over and over? I think it's time to find a lawyer, and start legal action for those of us who have had to pay out of pocket for work, they know will not last.
dude I feel sorry for you.....this is exactly what Im worried about. My truck was supposed to be picked up today (unmodded 2005) from headgaskets and studs but its still puking antifreeze. This is ridiculous these trucks are total POS. Ford doesnt give a crap about fixing the problem, they just want the cheapest fix. There is only one fix and I hate to say but its sell the truck, and buy a cummins or a Duramax. Goodluck man, I hope you can get out of this POS without having to pull a home equity loan keeping these things running.
Barry dude calm down ive seen some of your posts on the diesel place too. Heres what i think you should do. get the head gasket job done like your mechanic is doin. make sure they put the updated gaskets in and also the revised coolant level sticker on. If it happens again find a different Dealer to go to. Seems to me those guys are just throwin parts at it. and not diagnosing the problem correctly
Updated gaskets were installed on this current repair, 'revised' coolant level sticker was done in june of 2006. Only thing I can think now is egr cooler....I wouldnt be so concerned if this was a minor repair, or my warranty wasnt near its end, or these trucks werent notorious for problems......but all of the mentioned are true so I have to consider all of my options. I bought the truck right so selling once warranty is almost up will make sense. I love this truck, but paying huge repairs out warranty doesnt make sense. New 07 5.9L Cummins out the door for $34K is looking better and better
I completely understand. All vehicles have there problems...BUT I dont hear of Dodge or Chevy having HUGE warranty claims with the heart of there diesel trucks. The JD Edwards report was phenominally large in the last 4 years with the 6.0L PSD vs. the Duramax, or the Cummins.
I have a Hypertech programmer that was set on the #2 setting and I had the same problem and it turned out to be a blown head gasket from streched head bolts. I only had 14k miles on it.
