My old man has a 05 Excursion keeps telling me how his steering is loose and truck moves too much on the highway. Is there anything to do and pictures to explain would be great.
I adjusted the gear box on mine, it really helped.
On the gear box loosen the nut on the top. Using an allen wrench gently tighten the center nut till it bottoms out than back off 1/4 turn. tighten the outer nut.
Steering stabilizers help, maybe even a dual. Look up Fabtech site: 4wd 00-05 excursion
They sell dual opposing, or dual stock mount. I have the opposing and like it a lot. It is basically a shock absorber to dampen input from the road into your steering system. If the above post about the steering box gears does not fix it, AND THERE ARE NO WORN FRONT END PARTS, then this could help. Please have the front end checked out. You never know if something is worn, loose, etc.
DUAL STEERING STABILIZER
OPPOSING STYLE
Stabilizer cylinders are mounted across the axle housing in a horizontal opposed position reducing tire shimmy.
DUAL STEERING STABILIZER
STOCK LOCATION STYLE
Utilizing the stock location, two steering stabilizers are positioned back to back from each other to reduce tire shimmy.
