A week or so ago i got out of shoprite and my truck was dead, all the electronics worked fine, but, it wouldn't crank, no noise or anything just went dead when i turned the Key i was in a rush so i got a ride and just left it there, when i went beck later to jump it, i tried to crank it first and it fired right up. i thought it was the batteries, then i was going up a steep hill with no weight in the back and about half way up it started to sputter so i let off the Pedal and it idled very wierd but i didnt want to stall going up this hill, so i just pushed on, and at the top of the hill i let off and it was fine, and then yesterday i was driving over a rock and it was very hesitant, then all of a sudden stalled, now it wont start, i thought maybe my batteries are old, but the meter reads fine and its the same thing all the electronics work fine, but when i go to crank it dies, then i let go of the key and theyre fine. I had a 6.0 try to jump me but still nothing... I did the CPS summer '09. but ,y friend who works at FORD told me they recently had another recall on my year for the CPS, So what am i looking at?

Sorry for the long post. Thank you in advance.
I just moved to Miami for school and i dont have internet yet so i wont be back on till tomorrow, when i walk to school or barnes and nobles.
Thanks again,
Christian.

and you florida guys need to step it up with trucks, i have seen nothing but lowered and girly trucks, nothing cool yet.

There are really many things it could be but it's either electrical or fuel related. Mine did that exact thing when the wire going to the fuel heater rubbed through on the fuel line and blew the fuse that also provides power to the PCM. The heaters themselves can short and do the same thing. Here's what I'd do if I were you. Check all your under-hood fuses. In fact I'd check them all. Then check for fuel. (does it smoke while cranking?) Make sure you have good, fully charged batteries and then have someone crank the truck while you check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve. Is the fuel filter bowl full? I'd also try to locate a compatible scanner and check for any DTCs. Do that and report back what you find.

if it was the cps it would still turn over but not fire

Maybe I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that it cranks (turns over with the starter) but doesn't fire. If the starter doesn't crank (turn over) at all then it could be a number of other things. Ignition switch, clutch safety switch, (if a manual trans) trans switch, (if auto trans... if the shift lever is sloppy it's likely the bolts on the shift linkage near the floor under the dash often loosen up and can cause a no start. If this is the case try in neutral) solenoid, starter, (and their connections) possibly battery or ground connections. What exactly happens when you turn the key?

yea and u will prolly hav to clear the codes to see if ur truck is throwin any, and u hav to drive it a certain amt of miles in order for it to throw any codes, so drive it fore a little over a week and hav it rescanned. u want it scanned for codes, and prolly should do a buzz test/ contribution test as well. i would think it is the idm but idk. mite wanna run some seafoam thru it to clean up the fuel system a lil bit :thumb:

When i turn the key, everything dies, then i let go of the key and everything turns back on.
I just put a new steering column in like a month ago so maybe it think maybe the shifter loose is the problem, im in florida right now, so ill have my sister try to start it in neutral when she gets home tonight.

This sounds like battery connections, ground connections or the batteries themselves. I'm assuming you mean that all lights etc' go out when you turn the key to the 'start' position?

Sounds like dead batteries from a alternator going bad. Charge the batteries, then start the truck, once its started take both positive cable off the batteries (don't let them touch anything). If it stays running the alternator is fine if it quits you have a bad alt.
