What's the benefit of installing a 4" Stainless Exhaust on my all stock F250, where I am not removing the Cat Conv and I really don't care about performance sound coming out of exhaust???
I assume other than some slight improvement in exhaust flow volume, which may have a slight increase in reduced exhaust temp, there would be no need to shell out the $800 or so for this add-on.
i personaly just cut my muffler out and cleaned my cat out yesterday my egt's went way down and my mpg went way up like 5 miles to the gallon now im burning 15 mpg around town with additive and keeping my foot in the injectors sounds good turbo is loud as hell but i like it
If you have a 4" turbo back you will lose some low end torque, that is where the mpg is. The truck will have a "throaty or performance sound". It will be loud. People like the 4" for the sound and that it is ment for upgraded turbos and inj.
If you keep the cat on you can even go to a 5" becaue that cat is restictive.
The stock system is 3" down pipe to a 3.5". With a muff and cat delete pipe the truck will gain power and still hold low end touque. This is good for stock or even slightly modified.
With cat and muff delete pipes or any other system, the egt's will drop a good amount and be a benefit to the truck because of the less restrictive system. The remaining factor is low end torque.
I put a cat delete pipe and chopped the muffler and ran the pipe out before the back tire, lost all kinds of power and it breaks up..... feels like a miss, no codes
Thanks, as that's the info I'm looking for. Since I don't care about sound & my system is all stock, I assume there is no need to upgrade to 4" exhaust.
I am very interested in doing the cat & muffler delete, and curious - what will that do to the overall sound?? I don't want it any louder, and if it will be...maybe I should do the cat delete??
Can someone point me to where I can purchase the cat & muff delete pipe?? Gonna go that route.
This ws not intended for sound but it worked very well.
I purchased a tip from kregan auto parts that had 2 layers of metal.
In between the to metal layers there is some kind of wrap, like fiber glass or something. The inner metal layer has perforations. This decrased the exh noise. I also cut the last exhaust bend to face the rear of the truck, not the side. That also decreased the noise.(to the cab)
I think I found what I'm looking for and assuming the local muffler shop has some 3.5" pipe they can use if muffler replacement is done...BUT I don't want to lose the muffler if it's gonna be too loud???
Let's back up here.......$800 for a 4" cat back exhaust? I think you need to do a little more shopping there, they arent all that expensive. Mine is aluminized steel and it has held up fine.
I'm gonna want to hear a stock exhaust that has the cat & muff delete before I make the move. Seems like I'm back to being an "all stock" truck for now.
If I had all the performance add-on's, it would be a no-brainer for the exhaust upgrade.
good cuz then you dont even need to worry about emissions.
What is your push for trying to stay stock. There are many after market products that improve the quality and durability of the truck. Like the cat/muff delete pipes. Many of the aftermarket products can be very very pricey, yet you can do them your self for ALLOT less. Like the $400 EGR delete kits that you can fully make yourself for under $50
With the stock exhaust and a gotted cat expect to see 100-200* drop in egts. I've seen no solid mpg improvement. The truck is slightly louder than stock. With the stock muffler in place I really can't tell much difference in sound. I plan to at some point get a muff delete pipe made or buy one if I ever get around to looking for one. With a straight exhaust it will be louder and the turbo will be very pronounced
I just did this mod over the weekend and couldnt be happier with the results. I gutted the cat and used Pure Diesel Powers muff delete pipe. I will try and get a video up for sound asap. In cab noise is not much more than before and you can hear the turbo a ton more. Totally worth the $50 muff delete pipe.

Here's my deal, which may change over time as I get more experience with the PSD's or if I run into problems.
This is my first F250/Diesel truck. I'm strugglin with why people pay $5k more for the diesel upgrade when buying new OR pay more over a gas engine when buying used, only to have to dump thousands more for ensuring you don't blow your motor up. This completely perplexes me!!!
All of the factory tech's and long-time commercial users of these F250's say: LEAVE IT STOCK and you'll have minimal problems. And they say it's because of all the perf mod's that issues start occurring.
I'm not towing that much (flats boat and bay boat, which should be nothing), I'm not racing or mudding and I'm a daily driver. So I don't want gauges all over the dash, I don't want to wake up the neighborhood or annouce to everyone in quiet areas I'm coming......so staying stock seems to make the most sense.
I'm ready & absorbing as much as I can on this forum with lots of great info. Time will tell what I do. For ex. it's clear to me now, that it would be a waste of time to delete t he cat and/or muff to save a couple hundred *'s of EGT and get more nosie vs. performance or mpg.

Gotta remember that many people overdrive their truck- meaning that they do these power adds and think they are NHRA ready. There is a kid at a dealership I used to work at the was all about the black smoke, everywhere you saw this truck it looked like half the block was burning, long story short- he smoked his motor. You can't build anything gas or diesel and expest it not to break. As far as the 5k extra for the diesel option, you will get twice or three times the life out of the powertrain if maintained properly than gas. If you're not looking for sound you will probably be happy witha a xat delete and leaving the stock muffler. I have a cat delete and an aftermarket muffler on mine (Gibson) and it sound stock at an idle and talks a little bit when under a heavy load. By the way welcome to the diesel world, it's an addiction you can't deny one you get started, you will have a tuner next!:thumb:
Is this an easy DIY project?? Can you either email me OR share the process for doing this, assuming it doesn't impact other functions of the truck.....
If there is an existing post/thread with the info, maybe you can point me to it.
other then un bolting it it has 4- 15 mil bolts 2 front 2 back side and a lot of beating it off with a 2 lb hammer you can get it free then the fun starts i beat mine on a fence post till it was cleaned out then it was just a matter of bolting it back and enjoyng the wistle
i just went to local muffler shop and had them flare a 3 inch pipe to fit then weld it up since this is just a tempoary thing untill i get my studs done and go to stage 2 injectors and hpop
