Im about to be due for an oil change and im thinking about switching to Amsoil oil. I have made some calls to customer service and asked questions but now i want yalls input on this stuff. Is it worth the hype? Can you really go 10,000 miles on it? My truck has 120,000 miles on it and its been on Rotella 15w-40 with Wix filters and im wanting to change it to Amsoil oil and filter. Will there be anything special i need to do to swap it over? Anythink like an engine flush or can i just drop the oil and filter and refill it and put a new filter on it?

I want any/all input you have, good or bad. I need to know before i buy it this week.

Thanks guys

No..just dump it in, yes its worth the hype! lol

Most guys will say you need to do a top end oil change blah blah blah, you dont, change your oil like normal, they next oil change it will almost 100% be out, i run 8000-12000 kms an oil change.. oils still nice and clear with a minor dark tinge to it!

ive noticed that for sure... The ones that are running it, have it in EVERYTHING they own and absolutely love it.

not for me, i dont buy into the hype, oil is oil. doesnt matter if it has been engineered by rocket scientists...conventional oil (rotella, or motorcraft) every 3k for heavy duty every 5k for the average joe.

when my motor grenades on me because im not running amsoil.. ill let you guys no! :thumb:

Amsoil is good stuff, and oil is not oil. It all has to do with the AddPac (additive package). Just like gasoline, it's all cracked down through the same process to get the base stock, then the blendinf takes place, Amsoil uses a grade four base stock I believe where most others use a grade three, this means that their starting point is already at a higher grade then most. I run our (BG) Syn Blend 15w40 CJ-4 and run it about 8,000 miles with mostly highway driving.

No. And no. Oil reports don't lie. These motors shear oil when you run extended drain intervals.

From ancient history 'till now there has Never been a shortage of Snake Oil salesmen. The public just needs to feel special (by using these special products), and they have always been there to fulfill that need :)

Oils, medicines, hair-care, whatever...., the list goes on-and-on. But, I'm telling ya, it's much more about you than Any product :D

THANK YOU!

OIl isn't oil. Amsoil is worth the hype. I can elaborate if needed with data i've logged. On a Pstroke with synthetic you should be able to go 10,000 miles easy..
ok lets see your data, lets see your oil test results after 10k :dunno:

I've ran Amsoil and i can tell you the stuff is garbage and over priced. I run it in my motorcycle and when i change the oil i can tell a difference in it staying cleaner longer. However their automotive oil is crap, have not run it in my powerstroke but i also refuse to. I run Mobil 1 5-40 in the truck. Have always ran Mobil 1 in everything i own and have had great luck with it.
i know it seems like the placebo effect, but when i switched from Motorcraft 15-40 to Mobil 1 5-40 she quieted down at idle and has felt smoother overall. just my .02

Mobil one is good stuff too but I didn't realize that amsoil distinguished between oils by aplication. I buy my amsoil from a motorcycle/atv store and run it in everything, varying vscosities of course.

My last car had a oil change requirement that ranged from 12-17,000 from the factory. I took Mobil 1 syntec. It held 8 quarts of oil with the filter.

Please share your logged data. Key words above are *should* and *car*...

Your truck fires it's injectors using oil pressure. This produces a shearing effect on the oil which reduces its useful life. Add the soot to the mix and dirty sheared oil WON'T last for 10,000 miles. If anything you are reducing your injector's life, but it's your truck.

For the OP's question, just go with the cheapest diesel oil you feel comfortable with and be consistent with your oil changes @ the recommended change intervals. My injectors are happy with Valvoline Premium Blue changed at 5k intervals. :thumb:

I heard Ford was thinking/did change their recommended oil change interval from 3K to 5K with regular oil and like 8K with Synthetic...but I think its pissed the 10 minute oil change guys off because they are losing money. They still recommend 3,000 mile intervals...screw that. I run to 5,000 at a minimum.

I haven't switched to amsoil yet...although I'd like to...or even royal purple for that matter.

Oil is oil... run what ever makes you happy, but the rotella from wal-mart works great!

I used Amsoil in my truck and it made a nice difference. Idled smoother, ran cooler, and I got an extra 1/2mile to the gallon. Not much on the mileage, but it helped. It also saved me money not having to change it as often. I did oil analysis every 5k miles just to see where she was at. I changed oil anywhere from 10k to 15k depending on oil analysis.

oil isnt oil lol, i just finished going thru this at automotive school, they HAVE proved over and over that its better, i run RP 15-40 summer and RP 10-40 in the winter, my old truck i ran whatever came outta the bottle, WHY, because i was like MEH..this truck runs 10 times better, it idles 100% better, it drives amazing, and they have proven that its better..

its up to you...id run it day in and day out..

oh mobil 1..is garbage syn tech, being a tech for toyota ive seen it destroy more then 1 engine and PCV system..where as conventional oil hasnt done it..guys that run RP or amsoil..never an issue..

my 2 cents..id run it all day long!

laugh all you want? got beef come up..

yes it does..if it wasnt because of the oil what was it? why did it run like **** before? im waiting for a good explanation, your probably one of those guys that says oh run 15-40 in winter cause oil doesnt make a difference..HA your truck would blow up, up here..the US is not a rough climate for trucks..your cars dont see rough..rough is where i live..

OFF OIL!! IT CANT BE..

man..why dont ppl open there eyes..it works..

So what are the advantages of synthetic oil? It would appear the manufacturer’s claims of better engine protection at extreme driving temperatures are the key advantages. If you work your engine hard, drive in extreme heat, or have cold weather starts, then synthetic oil should protect the engine better.
s Synthetic Oil Better Than Conventional Motor Oil?

There’s no doubt that synthetic oil is better than conventional motor oil. Since synthetic oil is made with smaller molecules and less impurities it’s just a plain better lubricant. It’s especially better for today’s modern engines that have tighter tolerances and smaller oil passages that need a super lubricant. Car manufacturers are requiring that synthetic oil be used more and more. Most new vehicles are at least required to use a synthetic blend.

I just picked up some for my front and rear end.. retail on Mobil1 75w140 is $18.99 at the parts store near me.. with a "performed customer membership ($10 lasts for 6 months)" the Amsoil ran me just under $12 quart from a dealer! The 75w90 for the front was even cheaper so you can't say its much more cash if not less! I am doing both from and hear diffs for $94 including the $10 membership!

I'm sure its good stuff but, I can't justify the cost. I use full synthetic like mobile1 or rotella full synthetic. Engine runs just as good on these oils and I change it every 5,000. And yes I have tryed amsoil and the only thing I noticed was my wallet bleeding! As far as the extended oil change intervals, I would never let my 6.0 go that long on an oil change. The 7.3 is alot more forgiving in that aspect.

#33 ·
i think im gonna go ahead and make the swap.

#37 ·
you guys seem to feel a differance when you do an oil change?

....welll thats because everytime you do a oil change your engine is gonna run a little bit smoother. NO matter what kind of oil you are using! you guys running 7500-10000 mile intervals are obviously going to feel a differance because your oil is depleted of its lubricity! if you choose to believe what amsoils advertisement/propaganda tells you, then i cant do anything about that. also.. just for an example, i no what everyone thinks about bill hewiet, but when he cracked open that motor with 800,000 miles. It was as it was brand new. thats only using conventional oil all its life.

i just went to walmart and bought a 19L tub of rotella 15w-40 for $60

To the ones that is worried about the oil shearing, here you go.

AMSOIL Synthetic Oil does not break down like conventional petroleum based motor oils, is much more shear stable and does not have the waxes, paraffin's and by-products that come out of crude oil that is pumped from the earth.
