SCT Tuner and EGT's

I have an 08 with DPF/Cat delete, S&B air intake and SCT Livewire. I decided to run the extreme tune for about a week and see what kind of mileage I get and see how it runs. I noticed on the SCT I can monitor EGT's with the factory primary sensor. Now I know this isn't the same as an aftermarket probe in the manifold, but I'm wondering how accurate it is. I monitored it for the entire 180 mile trip this morning, with the cruise set on 71 (rpm's at 1900), and the EGT's never got higher than 850. The only thing I didn't like is the way the tranny shifted (I left it stock). I am leaning towards sending the SCT to IDP and have the custom tunes put on for the tranny and engine. My biggest concern is reliability. I want this truck to last a long time, but also want to get the best mileage possible. Well after that long drawn out statement, I guess what I'm really wondering is what is a safe range of EGT's with the primary factory sensor, and is it safe to run the IDP tunes as a daily driver? Thanks ahead of time for any input.:icon_ford:

EGT's can get over 1000 pretty easily running hotter tunes, but as long as your not holding it at 1500-1700 degrees and hotter for a long period of time, you will be fine. Some people tow and see 1100-1200 degrees for miles going up grades, and probably hotter than that. I know Matt at Spartan has held trucks at pretty high temps for awhile during testing and never ran in to any problems. I would go for the IDP tuning package. Everyone that has ever posted about it has posted nothing but positive feedback.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff! Where are you guys located in TN? I live in Cincinnati, but work in Somerset, KY. Just wondering how close you guys are.
