hole in #5 piston

So the last two weeks my truck has had a ticking/knocking sound. I did a compresion test and a leak down and found out that #5 piston is not holding any compression or air.

So now I am going to start looking for a new motor or reman motor. My question for you guys is if you had the chance to do a budget build and build a good strong reliable truck. I was thinking satge 1 sticks, adrenaline hpop, d66 turbo and a ts/dp chip. Am i on the right track or are there any recommendations. How much can I get a new motor and how much would a buildup with all the mods cost. I just want a good strong reliable towing machine. Also could I use a 7.3 from a senond gen and would it work? If so how hard would it be and what all would I have to do and would it give me anymore power than the first gen?

As always thanks for all the help.

I's, with II's ull be fighting EGTs alot. specially if u dont have an intercooler. that stock turbo wont like stage I's long either, trust me i blew up my original stocker with my I's in about 3 months.

i had a SCT XCAL3 on my truck with tunes from elite diesel. i liked them but it didnt have the smoke i liked with my edge evo. ull hear the most positive stuff is from TS.

for the intercooler its fairly simple long as ur a lil mechanically inclined. there used to be a write up on here about it that i used way back when i did mine that walked me right through it. when i did mine i got a H2E turbo kit that came with all the plumbing for an intercooler so all that was easy for me. but if ur plannin on runnin a stock charger then ull need a intake spyder off a E99 van or 99 SD truck cuz it has the 3" for the pipes and it necks down to the 2 or 2-1/4 that the motor has. i used to have all that but hav sold it.

PS as for the weekend hauler combo and sticking with a stock turbo id prolly get a lil smaller set of sticks then the 160cc I's. for 1 its gonna be pretty smokey, 2 gonna get hot and 3 its gonna hurt that turbo a lil later down the road. WOULD DEF NOT CONSIDER A H2E FOR TOWING it takes forever to spool off the line with 160cc sticks, i didnt like hauling a single car hauler with my truck cuz it seemed like it was so heavy tryin to take off.

yea if i had it to do over again ida prolly went with the d66. the H2E is too big. it was nice for sled pullin cuz the spool up time gave the trucks suspension time to load up so it doesnt blow the tires off. i liked it for that but for pulling a trailer down the road i wouldnt do it.
