ok when im under load like going up a mountain or pulling a trailer my turbo(i guess its the turbo something under the hood anyhow) sounds like a pressure cooker shaking! is that just turbo surge? is it bad? i always just just thot it was suckin air in, cuz i have a diy intake and ts chip. would a new compressor wheel help?
what setting do you have the ts on when you are towing up the hill. iknow will surge in teh 140 when i get on it from a dead stop. do you have any gauges. if you have a boost gauge you will see when it surges the needle will bounce back and forth like its fluttering.
ford has a factory back pressure valve that heats the truck when its cold and serves as an exhaust brake if you buy the controller. so mabye it could be that sticking it makes a heck of a blowing noise somtime when the wiring harneess goes bad this happens
yes it sounds like turbo surge. It is due to the "quiet" compressor wheel that ford put on late 99's and up 7.3s. You can try a wicked wheel and it should stop the surge or you can go for a new ATS compressor housing and it should completely cure any surge problem.
Surge! I had the same issue. Invested in ATS housing and now no surge. I did keep the stock comp. wheel[bigger fins than the wicked wheel supposed to move more air faster, in combination with the ATS housing] Great investment!
nah really a little surge doesn't hurt all that bad especially when you can control it with your throttle, but it could shorten the life of your turbo if you push it too hard for too long.
