negative battery cable.

hello,
I have a 2001 f250 with a 7.3L. I need to replace the left side negative battery cable. The cable is long with two smaller cables in each end (one that’s on the battery and another that’s on the motor). The ford dealership wants $60 bucks for a new one. I feel that they’re asking too much.

My question: I found a cable at O’Reilly’s auto parts that seems to be the right size. The only problem was that it didn’t have the smaller negative cables on each end of the main cable. Instead, it had two smaller cables, which were connected to the main top battery post. It’s the same current, so I figure that if I connect everything right it should work fine. Or I’m I just plain out wrong?

thanks,

As long as the battery in question is grounded to the frame, and whatever the two original small wires were connected to are also grounded to the frame (or your new cable) then you'll be fine.

60 dollars isnt a bad price for a cable that will fit right, and wont give you problems. I have people come into our shop all the time with battery cable problems after replacing the cable with a cheap aftermarket unit.

You'r asking for trouble with cheepy stuff like that.
