First let me say that I am really digging the new 2011 Powerstroke!! I was seriously considering ordering me a new Super Duty, but that was until I found out they are not offering a 6 speed manual???
Now that is really disappointing to me, and sadly I will not be ordering one because of that. While the new 6 speed automatic seems to be well designed and offers alot, I simply do not want an automatic.
Now I have wrote a nice email to Ford telling them to consider adding a manual to the future trucks, as if they did I would be a guaranteed future buyer of the new Super Duty.
So to all those who will miss the manual like I do, please write Ford a email and tell them not to drop the manual!! Maybe if they get enough people complaining about it, they will atleast have it as an option. One can only hope. lease:
So besides this issue, I really like the truck and it looks like Ford has done their homework on it. What a beast it looks to be!! :icon_ford:
Yeah I know its getting less popular, but I would think their would still be a fair amount of people getting a manual. I mean these trucks are so damn expensive as it is, now its gonna go up another 2 grand so i can get a option that I do not want. I want a bare to the bone F-350 extended cab long bed manual transfer case, windows, locks, everything manual. Thats how a truck should be. Its just ridiculous a new truck is over 60 grand now. Atleast if they offered a hand shacker it would knock 2k off the price. I'm one of the few who like rough riding and loud trucks. Call me crazy, but I would take a base bare to the bone truck over a King Ranch.
I'll never buy an automatic truck....ever. Besides the benefits of hauling, towing, etc, I was brought up with a handshaker, its all I've driven, its all I ever will.
I know they've made a lot of advances in automatic transmissions, but I feel like I'm driving a golf cart.
The cab and chassis models might, but Ford has stated repeatedly the small demand compared to the entire range of production doesn't justify making a manual truck.
It's sad to see manuals go because nothing can surpass the control you have, but the large majority just don't want them anymore.

Thats why im gunna be keeping my 7.3 even if I do buy a new 6.7 which I plan on doing. I would rather have an auto for sled pulling and drag racing anyway so I figure ill be happy with one of each.
They Big 3 are discontinuing manuals mainly do to the fact that it is harder to control emissions on them. They have no control over how the truck will shift. Causing to many variables.
The lack of autos in 1/2 tons is what finally pushed me to a SuperDuty. I had been on the fence for years going big, and that is what did it. I know all the arguments about auto's getting better, but simply prefer to **** myself. I guess my 07 will have to last me a long time.
That said, I will send a letter to Ford. Might not do any good, but we did save the Mustang from becoming a Probe with a letters.
Not like it matters but from the dealer book I got from a buddy of mine, on the shifter there are buttons to manually shift. Like that dumb slap shifter crap. You can only do it when the shifter is selected to "M".
I love reading these threads, im curious if people are afraid of technology or?
I've driven a hand shaker powerstroke, and my current truck. I will never drive another diesel with a manual.
I love manuals in other cars, but i hate the way boost falls off in between shifts. My truck shifts fast, smooth, it down shifts and holds revs. I just have no complaints.
I started driving auto Powerstrokes in '99 and I have never looked back! I really doubt anybody out there pulls any heavier or harder than I do and my autos will out pull a six speed every time! I can go close to 200,000 miles of heavy pulling with an auto and never touch it and my six speed clutches fell apart about every 50,000miles, and a clutch rebuild is comparible to an auto tranny rebuild as far as cost. We have had 4 six speeds and I liked them, they are great mountain driving trannies with that good low gear, and they pull fine on the highway, but Ford builds a good auto and I have good luck with them. I hate to see the option go away too! As far as Dodge or Ram (whatever that Obama run co. is calling itself these days) their autos have always been junk and the guys that pull hard have no choice but to buy a six speed if they want results. I had'nt heard they were going only auto any time soon, but that will hurt them with their serious hauling customers. I like my auto and my wife can't hurt my engine with it!:thumb:
Could all your problems with the stick be related to driver error? I have an '06 F250 6 speed with a 6 inch lift and 37" tires. 125k miles and probably half of those miles were with a trailer behind me and the longest trailer we pull is 45' long. I've yet to have problems with the clutch/tranny and like some others here in the thread hate the fact that ford did away with the 6 speed. (I do love the center console in the 2011's tough :nod

my first PSD was a 6-speed and now I have an auto, I haven't missed the stick once yet, I love having the auto.
Im sure Ill change my mind when I have to drop big $$ for a rebuild but the new autos are very strong nothing like the old ones in the 7.3's
Look at all three manufacturers. All of them including Ford have had a tough time in the last few years financially. If I had to spend my money wisely and 90% of the people buying the product I sold wanted the same thing I would have to seriously look at the option that the other 10% of my customers were buying and decide weather it was cost effective to keep producing it. It appears that Ford has done that. In order to keep the company financially healthy they need to do more of this type of thing so I will give Ford a thumbs up for doing the right thing here. BTW, I like the handshakers myself. :thumb:
I love manuals more than an auto as well BUT, The auto transmissions of today are nothing like the ones from yrs past. They are much more advanced and i happy with my 4r100 so far. I wanted a 6sp. when i got the truck but ithink i made the right choice now
My BIL works at the Louisville Assembly Plant informed me that some 2011s are built with manual transmissions, problem is, they send all of them to Mexico. Someone explain why they can build them for Mexicans, but not for us.
I understand the demand for Manuals isn't high, but I would think there is enough demand for one of the big three to spend money to certify it with teh EPA.
I would move to Dodge if it meant I could get a manual the next time I buy a truck. If there are only autos at that point, I expect to stick with Ford.
Sorry guys the manual is dead. Automatics are far better and more reliable than manuals now
