Hi guys,
My truck is having issues. I either have an oil leak or a problem with unburnt fuel (or both).
It is an 02 7.3
226k miles ALL STOCK
I am 99% sure that I do have a fairly major valve cover leak which I will be checking/fixing this week (oil looks to be running down the head and block from above).
But I do seem to have an excessive amount of either oil or fuel (can't smell it) on the tail gate and raer bumper of the truck.
If am very concerend about pic #3 the end of the exhuast is pretty wet....What would cause that? :dunno:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There are also spots inside the RH rear wheel arch.....can't be from the exhaust...surely...:dunno:
The oil on the pipe is kinda weird, but check in the valley of the engine for a ton of oil. There are about 3 places it could be leaking from. Does any of it smell like fuel?
No, there is no fuel smell.
About 6 months ago I replaced the the o-rings on the back of the fuel heater.
I put a pan under it last night (RH rear of engine) and it has oil in it this morning....so I definately have a leak. But that doesn't exlain the exhaust tip.
Mate, I am hopeing it is something like that but it would be weird to only be at the tip of the pipe.
To me it looks like it is coming out of the pipe on to the bumper (but I am hopeing that I am wrong).
maybe its oil coming from inside the turbo and the pedistal o rings are shot too? Can you pull off a CAC tube and check for a ton of oil in the intercooler?
Yes, but I think that that is coming from the RH valve cover.
I thought it was coming from the drain plug but on closer inspection it was running down the side of the block to the drain plug and then dripping off.
No problem, the CAC is charge air cooler tube. Its the large aluminum pipes that connect the turbo to the intercooler. Pull one of the boots off and check for excessive oil. SOME oil will be normal. We should have asked you, but is the truck smoking at all? If so what color?
You know, sometimes I think that I see smoke in the mirror but honestly I think that it is my immagination. I have had my wife follow me and I have followed her and neither of us have seen anything outside of the usuall black smoke/unburnt fuel when you really put your foot into it.
So I would say no.
OK guys, bumping my old thread here.
The HPOP was clean. The oil is coming from around the turbo pedastool. My concern is the oil in the exhaust (see pic in post one).
I am now seeing smoke on decelleration, just at the moment that I back off and on the freeway a few days back I had constant smoke under acceleration. I have not driven it since.
My topside creeper has arrived and I wil start work on the truck later this week.
Anyone have any ideas on the oil inside the exhaust? Blown turbo? :dunno:
:woot: Yes, a BIG THANK YOU to Kenny @ KT performance.
The best deal I could find anywhere and great service!
