Alot of Regens, and smoke

I have a 08 with 80k miles,
I drive about 30 mins a day, and the truck seems to regen every other day,
and I usually let it finish. Also when driving, the exhaust smokes quite a bit when under load in the beginning of regen, is that normal? lastly, if accelerating while in regen, the rpm seem to jump up quicker then normal and the engine sound is more whining, hard to explain.

Could my DPF be on its last leg and unable to clean properly?

just curious about all this, soon I hope to have a aftermarket exhaust etc.

Sounds like it might not be doing its job properly, possibly from lack of ULSD maybe? I've never seen a puff of smoke from my truck, but I've only ever used ULSD. I'd imagine some smoke would be normal, as the soot has to go somewhere, but it sounds like yours is excessive. Take it in and get your local dealer to check it out since you're covered under warranty.

I have the exact same issue with my 08 and 11,000 miles on it. The truck has to be up to full temp before it will start regen. My 16 mile run to work never allows it to get through regen all the way so it does it a lot. Smokes like crazy for the first few minutes. Only way I could get it to stop re-gening every other day was to take it out and drive it highway speed for about 40 miles. Took it a good 10 miles before it started to re-gen then another 30 before it completed. I didn't look where you are from but the cold weather is making mine worse. Cop pulled me over for it once. Started re-gen and smoked like crazy all over his cruiser. Didn't know he was behind me until the cherries came on. He looked under my truck and saw all the parts were still on the exaust. I told him I was taking it in to get looked at. He let me go. Took it in and ford told me there was nothing they could do and the trucks are meant to be driven longer distances and I would need to run it on the highway for 30 miles or so when it went into re-gen. I asked them why they didn't tell me that when I was looking to buy it.

Our trucks at work do the excact same thing when they've been idling alot. Exhaust smells bad too. DPF gets loaded up and needs a good drive to clean it out.

DPF is plugged.
Now you can replace it or remove it and get a tuner. Improve your MPG and EGTs for longer life.
