I have recently bought a 2004 6.0 with 94,000 miles and bone stock. Just within the last few days when I start it up there is a little white smoke hazing out and even more when I get on the road and the turbo kicks in up until it hits operating temperature and then there is nothing... I smelled the exhaust and it burns my nose like it may be antifreeze. The engine runs well and the heater blows hot in the cab. I'm not too sure what the issue may be, but it doesn't seem normal to me. Are there any ideas?
well have you used any coolant lately? if not sounds like a egr valve sticking/hanging open. but first things first, check your coolant level and if its where it should be, I wouldnt condem a cooler yet. if it is low, pressure test it and find out where the coolant is going. let us know
It would seem that I have definitely lost some coolant... a week ago the level was just under the maximum level, and now it is a little under the minimum level.
And I also am noticing intermittently a tea kettle like noise coming from under the hood when cruising along at a steady speed... definitely not a turbo noise. May be unrelated, but thought I'd throw that out there.
Whatch it!!! I had the same problem. White smoke from time to time, sporadic. I left my truck in the garage for a couple of days and surprise! coolant reservoir empty and it looks like hydrolocked. EGR is ok, no water on it and no debris or clogged. I´m trying to find what was the problem. I dont have any place where to plug the ECU or spares close, and Ford Chile is too expensive. 60USD the oil filter....so imagine to tear down the engine...
