Im so excited about this that i had to post now
To sum up my truck issues, its the typical rough start stuff. If i tried to start my truck when it wasnt warm (45 degrees or less outside) without plugging it in, it would start HORRIBLE. chugging, white smoke, really bad shaking, etc. The first time i attempted to start it in cold weather, it was right at freezing (32 degrees). I rolled through the key 3 times and attempted to start it. It would start up, chug a couple times, then die. It continued do to this a handfull of times, until it finally chugged itself into a stage where it wouldnt die anymore. After the truck warmed up, it would run just fine.
HOWEVER, if i plugged the truck in for 2+ hours, it would start up just fine.
So, after doing some reading on here, i got pointed in the direction of the Rev-x oil additive. I was speculative because, well, its just some fluid you add to the oil. I figured i might as well try it before i take my truck to the stealership and have them tell me i need thousands of dollars worth of work on the plugs/injectors/whatever. I put the stuff in yesterday after class, let my truck idle for 30 minutes (while i packed some stuff up i had to ship), then i drove the truck for about 30 minutes, stopping occasionally (to ship the packages). I rang up 28 miles before i went to bed last night.
Well, that is the background info on the truck, and this is my story this morning:
My girlfriend gets up at 5:30AM to drive to swim practice every morning. This morning, he car wouldnt turn over (she's been having starter issues, but apparently it finally kicked the bucket). Sssooo, she comes and wakes me up and asks me if i could drive her. Obviously, i get up and HOPE that my truck will start (she plugs it in as she leaves for practice for me, so it hadnt been plugged in).
It was 30 degrees flat this morning, so i figured my truck was going to give me hell when i tried to start it. I rolled the key 5 times just to be safe, and it started RIGHT up, as if it had already been warmed up. I couldnt believe it :woot:
That was with 30 minutes of idling and about 30 minutes of easy town-speed driving. This almost makes me think that there is something in the additive that makes it start easier though, because i dont understand how something would be able to clean my system that quick? Either way, the truck started right up without being plugged in this morning, which is a big ol' :thumb:
Tomorrow morning is supposed to be pretty chilly as well (High temp for the day around 34 degrees, low temp of the day in the mid 20's). Im going to leave it unplugged and try to start it early tomorrow morning while its still below freezing again, but im going to roll through the plugs only once. I'll report my findings :icon_ford:
Here is my thread where i was introduced to the Rev-X stuff, and there is a link in there made by Dave to show a thread where a few people tested it out (post #18), and it also worked!
