if you want to make a really good tow rig keep it as close to stock as possable. sct intake exhaust studs and egr delete. If you are planning to make a good street truck and still tow then get a 62/70 or modded vgt and 155-175 cc injectors. smaller if planning to tow heavier but stay as close to stock if you want just a tow rig.
Probably 175cc probably be better for the SS, 155 your only going 20cc more then stock but your upgrading your turbo from a 58 I believe is stock to a 64 housing its better matching, if your not gonna tow id go with 190's and a SS which Im running currently changin here in the near future to bigger.
Stock sticks and turbo. Some have had good success with larger sticks and turbos or even gone the route of twin turbos. More often than not people have had drivability issues when you get to pulling that kind of weight. With a 6.0 it is pretty expensive to have a street/strip truck that can still tow 20k+
if your old truck did not pull good it sounds like you have more issues like mabe exhaust or you need to do a dpf delete and mabe you should look into other things what kind of tune were you running and intake did you have you could upgrade these things then try the sct again if that did'nt work you could by a comma or a period

There are no dpf on 6.0 trucks. When you talk about lag and loosing speed on hills. What tunes you running? Dependant on the hill pulling 20k that should probably be expected. With around 10k I will keep the turbo spooled by rolling the throttle before I get to the hill to keep up my speed. If I set the cruise or don't roll the throttle the turbo dosent start to spool till I go up the hill. The turbo being spooled make 100% of a difference. Dependant on the tune tapping the brake will unlock the converter and help spool up the truck as well. Maybe this will help but realize that 20k is a lot of weight.
how close in relation is the vgt-ss and the ii stage 2 vgt, looking into both eric stated that the ii vgt would work fine but would like to order all my parts through the same company ( elete )
When deciding on an aftermarket turbo, there are a few factors that need to be looked at (location, fueling, towing, weight of vehicle, weight of the loads, primary purpose of the vehicle, secondary use of the vehicle, etc).
Being that you tow a lot and a relatively heavy load, you must size the charger for the load and work that is performed. I’m assuming that since you live here in Texas, you probably don’t drive through a lot of mountains, but you may see quite a few hills.
An easy break down for charger size is that a 66 should not be used for towing. A 64mm can be used for towing up to 10k but 8k is the most I like to see regularly. A 62 can be setup for most other applications. If the primary life of the truck is towing 20k or more, a 62 may not be a good option.
Is the truck always hooked up to a trailer or only a few times a week?
Are you looking at upgrading your injectors? If so, I wouldn’t recommend anything larger than 155’s. If not, then I would stay with a stock turbo (it is that simple).
Are you having issues with your stock turbo or are you looking for more power?
Naw it mite have a trailer 2 times a mouth I have a nother truck for the big stuff like just in case it gose down I could pull with it. I want more power and I plan on getin new injectors to
It is best to upgrade your injectors first. Then your turbo. If you upgrade your turbo first, you will find that you don't have the same power down low and you will only gain 20hp or so up top. Not really worth it.
I would probably do a high flow compressor cover on a 62mm turbo and pair that up with a set of 155 to 175's. The 175's will land you more power but it will be a little smokier when you tow.
