Long crank to start

a friend of mine has a 7.3 PSD has to crank 15 to 20 seconds to start

has replaced the IPR

high oil pressure is slow to get to 500 psi (15 - 20 sec) and thats when it will start

is there any common places where the HP oil pump lose its prime maybe?

after its running its runs ok...maybe lacking a little power(but is running straight #1)

after truck is shut off for a couple mins it has to crank for 15-20 sec too restart

HP oil pressure is within specs after its running

its never lose any crankcase oil

:dunno:

It might be the check valves in the HPOP. If they go bad the reservoir will empty out and it has to refill before it will start.

Injector O-rings!
Has he removed the plug on the high pressure oil reservoir to see if it is full. If it's draining back you will see when you pull the plug. It is on the reservoir in front of the fuel filter housing. It's a hex plug.

O rings i wouldn't think would do that. Usually orings result in fuel in the oil, oil in the fuel, or just a lot of blue smoke.

The O-rings on the 7.3s are notorious for causing no starts ask any Powerstroke tech. The ICP bypasses the blown O-rings until it builds enough pressure on the injectors will O-rings still intact or in many cases it will not start at all. I had one 2 weeks ago with 6 injectors that had blown O-rings and it would not build above 200 psi.

Thanks. Not really much of a drop, about 50 degrees across the board. Takes a little bit longer before my pyrometer get buried. :hehe:
