got some questions

Hello 7.3 world :)

My friend has a 2001 7.3 and is trying to manage his truck better with money. His superchips was stolen and he is on an extreme tune. He is tuning turn things around and to make his truck efficient with little $$.

He and I are wanting to take it to ford for a reflash. good idea??
then use my SCT X3 from innovative diesel to give him some 7.3 specific tunes.

He already has a 4" turbo back and he is going from a 10" lift to close to stock. I think that is it.

What things do you guys recommend to make his truck more efficient and reliable. DIY and after market stuff.

I have heard that the air intake is a good place to start, allong with tunning.

The part I put in bold is a bad idea. You would have to return your truck to stock. Unlock your tuner. Get his strategy get tunes for him. Put the tune on his truck which in turn locks the tuner to his truck.

Then next time you wanted to tune yours you would have to return his to stock unlock the tuner. Reload your tunes. Upload your tune locking the SCT to your truck.

You would have to go through this every time one of you wants a tune on your rig.

You would be far better off finding your buddy a used chip or used SCT that is not locked

I ran Innovatives SCT tunes on my 7.3. Excellent tuning

IMO I would just go and get a chip from Matt at Gearhead for the truck. Once you put in the TS Style chip it will over ride what ever is on the PCM anyway and it is 10x better than the tuning you can get on a SCT and also you dont have to have the PCM reflashed. Its a win win.
While my 7.3 Innovative tunes were awesome. I agree that a chip is the preferred method for a 7.3

Does Gearhead have a web page to order off of? I searched it but its a very common name and idn which gearhead automotive he is...

Raul at Stealth is also a sponsor here. get with him. send him a PM or give him a call. if oyu get a TW chip, they can be sent back in and re-burned with different tunes for free. be sure when orderign you list all of your mods so you get proper tunes
