I've seen several threads on the wastegate line being hooked up or not, etc. etc.
Today I popped of the hose that's on the wastegate and took it around the block, my boost went from 16-17PSI at WOT to 20PSI at WOTish around the block. A little faster spool up too. Just cruising around and having a wastegate not hooked up, I noticed my boost is a little higher than it usually is under the same driving conditions, which I assume would be because there is no "engineered leak" present. Letting off the skinny pedal at 20PSI was pretty cool to hear that turbo cough, the real fast chug-chug-chug. It makes me want to call up DP-Tuner a little faster now.
Any negative issues with keeping that wastegate hose off and not letting the "engineered leak" occur? I put it back on the Wastegate anyway.
Not that I know of I have mine off and at WOT I've seen 32 psi boost might have gone a little higher but I backed off. I don't know what the max boost is on a stock turbo w/ an ATS Compressor housing. I know with stock turbo (no mods) you want to be careful with 30 psi.
30 is the highest you want to go on the stock turbo. Just because you have an ATS housing you still have the stock insides and they dont like playin over 30 much. To answer the OP as long as you dont go over 30 lbs too much you will be allright. I know its only hittin 20 now but once you get that DP look out.
i dont have a sensor elimantor but I do have the one that SP Diesel sells and it works fantastic. Unhooked the wastegate and spool is faster and like 31 lbs now.
Do you have any idle problems ie rough idle or lobeing?? I thought about getting this one but had heard that it makes the computer think you have full boost even at idle and was worried about that plus the SP one was like half the price.
nope none at all, I can say I am very happy with it. I'm not sure exactly what the MAP fooler "fools" the PCM into thinking, I thought it was a resistor that limited the voltage input to the MAP so the PCM never "sees" any more than 22 PSI. ...but I'm not really sure.
I'm hitting 30-31 PSI on a stock 200K turbo with a DI 6pos. I try to keep it at about 25 though b/c of the surge and all. I also have my WG disconnected and soon will be Non-WGed and Non-EBPVed. I'm too happy! I also see the 25-31psi on a daily basis. That's b/c I can't help but throw soot and hear the SPISH!!! from the turbo while rowing the 6spd.
There is a lot of damage you could do w/out a WG. It's there for a reason...to limit boost and keep the motor together. Same with the MAP sensor. If your unplugging/deleting your WG and installing a Map Fooler, you apparently aren't concerned about warranty and take the responsibility of breaking stuff. If you'd rather have the performance than your warranty, then mod on! It will be fun while it lasts. And like Lord Tauk said, you not going to get 30+ psi w/out some sort of tuner like a 6 Pos Chip.
I left my hose just hanging there and still gained boost.
I only think it matters if the hose is connected or not, if it's just hanging there or plugged with a cup, or whatever - doesnt matter. Without the hose on the wastegate, there is nothing for it to leak out as far as I know.
I went ahead and did it. I'm going to reconnect it for this next tank of fuel to see how my !muffler mod did for MPG, then I'm going to disconnect it for the next and see if there's any difference
So far on my new airbox I've got 415 miles of mixed driving with ~1/4 tank remaining. I've got the ~25 gal tank too (whatever it actually works out to )
