On my way home from work today I stopped to fill up, that was fine. But when I was about 2miles from home, a msg came up in the cluster, *Water In Fuel*. I immediately put my Diesel Kleen in my fuel to disperse it. Is there anything else I should do?
It's pretty well covered in your owner's manual, but it's not hard just messy. There is a hex key or allen screw in the front end of the unit that you remove and allow the fuel/water to flow until you feel you have clean fuel coming out. It just makes a friggin mess everywhere!
The International LCF trucks have the same unit, but with a drain valve. You can buy the drain valve for less than $15 and install it in your unit to make the job easier.
Well I got under my truck late last night and looked at the frame rail around the area of the tank and couldn't find anything. I called my dealer today and they said that it shouldn't cause me any issues. The msg hasn't come up today, but I know one thing is for sure, I'm never filling up at that station again.
Here is what it looks like but is this on a 2010 6.4 or a 6L in your sig you have 2010 if so it should just have a lever you turn i think.

It's not near the fuel tank, it's inside the frame rail about where the driver's door is. The unit looks like a fuel pump, but it's a fuel/water seperator. The plug that you need to open is on the front side.
And your going to need a 6mm Allen wrench (bent, a straight one will not work), a container to catch the fuel and a change of clothes. Don't bother looking at the owners manual. It doesn't look anything like the description, no valve lever nor drain tube. The short end of the allen key will allow about 1 full turn before the drive shaft interferes allowing 1/2 turn at a time after that. Completely remove the plug and drain about one quart of fuel. That, plus the cup or so that you are now wearing should do it.
I've had major water issues in my fuel twice in the last year. I noticed a mention of Diesel Kleen in one of the comments. What is this where do you find it. Both times I bought the bad fuel in Kentucky. Don't they regulate the distributers.
No thing to reset but you will have to pull it apart and clean it the WIF Sensor has a short in it from all the junk in it lack of service you will see it in the pic this should be drained every month about 2 oz Service Points - HFCM and Fuel Filters

I appreciate the quick response. I just bought this truck in June and its my first diesel. I have no idea if this has ever been serviced before or not.
Where is the WIF sensor? I replaced both filters and drained seperator and I have put fuel in it twice and I know its not bad fuel because it is where we always get fuel in other trucks.
I would rec. ASAP do a primary and secondary fuel filter change out. When you pull the cover on the primary filter (the one under the truck about where the driver seat is on the frame rail) carefully examine the housing and cap and make sure there is no waxy build up. This is paraffin from poor fuel and will retain water and fool the WIF sensor.
I like to add PowerService brand (white bottle for winter blend) year round to disperse water in the fuel, condition injectors, and boost the cetane numbers. I do not add it every fill up but about once a month in warm months and every two weeks in the winter.
I changed my fuel filters and about half a fresh tank later my WIF light comes on. I was on the highway with no tools and no where near home so I continued driving and about an hour later the light went out. Today I filled up again and used some cetane booster (cant racall what brand, got it at advance auto). A short time after fill up the WIF light came on again.
Back when I changed the filters I did not have a tool to open the drain plug so I just removed the filter and let it drain that way. I went today and bought the tool (6mm hex) only when I tried to open the plug it would not budge then finally it stripped the hex.
Any ideas? It looks like there four small screws that can be removed to drain the area where the plug goes. Is this the area where the water collects making imperative for it to be drained?
Yea the only way to drain all of the water is through that plug. Changing the filter wont let all the fluid drain out not to mention all the water. It's gonna look kinda nasty in there too so don't worry about that too much just clean what you can and dont mess up the sensor. Looks like your in for a new cover for sure. Have seen this a few times at my brother in-law's shop.
I emailed Edge about the problem, but they believe it's limited to just my vehicle (!!!). They wrote, "I think this issue may be something we can't fix as we have to pull data to view the parameters and the act of pulling data doesn't typically cause any issues whatsoever."
If you have installed an Insight product and your water in fuel light is on, please test it as I did in the video above. If yours is doing the same thing, PLEASE email the folks at Edge, at tech@edgeproducts.com so they know I'm not the only one with the problem. Maybe they'll figure out a way to fix it if they realize there are others with the same problem, since they don't seem to care too much when it's just me.
Do you run a bully dog programmer with the edge monitor? Does the light go off when you take the monitor off or unplug the WIF sensor?
