What do I need to know about this truck?
What is the deal with the stock exhaust tips???
Is there a synthetic oil for the 6.4L and can diesels take long drain intervals?

Yes, there are a few synthetics that meet the CJ-4 standard.

I would not extend drain intervals on this truck in stock condition unless you are sure you will not experience fuel dilution. Fuel dilution can affect trucks with the stock DPF in the exhaust. With the DPF removed and an aftermarket ECU flash, it's a different game and extended drain intervals are reasonable.

DPF diesel particulate filter for the exhaust. Use the search feature there is a ton of info on dpf deletes etc on here.

Got it, I'll wait for the warranty to run out.

DPF delete, Requires adding a tuner to your truck along with a DPF delete pipe to stop the regen process. The regen process adds fuel to your engine to be used to burn off soot collected in the Diesel Particulate Filter. It increases the amount of fuel used by your truck which is the main reason you experience terrible fuel mileage. Not to mention the damage done when unburned fuel makes it into your crankcase to break down your oil thats supposed to protect your engine. Deleting the DPF will void your warranty if taken back to the dealer still installed, but it is possible to return to stock for service.

hope that helps

So there is nothing in particular I need to know about an '08 F-250, that's good I guess.

Tried using search function for DPF, but search doesn't find one thread with "dpf" in it, is there a problem with the search?

There's 1 thread in this section on the first page. Go to the performance section and you'll find hundreds. I just started following current threads and after a week or so you'll have plenty of information to decide how you want to proceed with your truck...

In the performance section almost every thread talks about the dpf delete and one option or another..

the exhaust is temperatures are super hot on these trucks. the tip lets cool air in to lower the temperature before it comes out

I have an 08 250 6.4L that has poor throtle reponse, but I have noticed when in regen mode the response is much better. Any ideas why this is happening and is there anything that can be done to keep the good throtle response? The dealer says all is ok, but the lack of response is borderline dangerous. New to the forum so hope this is right place to ask this question.
Thanks

Welcome to the org. You may want to start a new thread with your questions to get answers though. And not hijack someone elses.

As for your question, the only thing i can think of is when in regen the turbo doesn't really spool up hence no turbo lag. When not in regen the turbo takes a little time to spool and then takes off like a bat outa hell right? Get yourself a tuner and delete the dpf and it will get much much better :thumb:

i would put a tuner on it to see if you can get something to break that is close to worn out..then you can get it fixed for free.. ur truck..10k miles on stock tune is very well..boring..i had to go 13k before i could afford a spartan tuner..last 4k miles..well i love the truck even more now haha

Can anyone explain FX4 vs. Off Road, my '08 says Off Road under the 4x4 on the bed. What is the difference? I went to the Ford web page to build a '10 but there are no options for the 4x4 now.

FX4 was a trim level not an option on these trucks, it was rubber floor mats and body color grill i believe. Offroad package was skid plate, on 2011 models its back to the way it used to be.
