Long story short...
Driving slowly in a parking lot, and the 6..0 died. There was no hesitation, no warning, it just died. Never would start again. It would crank very well, the oil pressure guage indicated pressure. No hint of a piston wanting to fire. Caled tow truck and hauld to Ford dealer. Today they called and this is what the service department desk person told me.

Fuel injector pump
Injector control module
Injector pressure regulator
Fuel pressure O-rings
Fuel Injector O-rings
Fuel injector pump cover gasket
Injector tube adapter
y pipe / cross over
Technition Diognosis
labor
=
$2170.00 plus tax

Is this right or am I getting $ucked AGAIN with THIS repair bill too??????????:tard:

Well being that there is no such thing as a fuel injector pump, id say they are trying to f you.

I would take it somewhere else. Im not a 6.0 expert, but sounds to me like it might just be the FICM.

OK, I called the shop and they said it was the HPOP that's went out. "It's shooting oil every where" - I didn't see any oil on the ground at the parking lot when it was towed... I guess that guy at the front desk is a tard.

If it is the HPOP, are all of the other items required to do this repair?
If so is this price too high. It sure sounds f-ing hight to me...???
Do the HPOP, ICM & IPR all go out at the same time?

#6 ·
Well the HPOP will not effect the FICM for sure, so yeah, i think they are trying to f you.

have it towed to a reputable shop or dealer........sounds like they are kinda screwy, or don't have a diesel tech on staff

#8 ·
I seriosly doubt all that went out at the same time. Heck some of that stuff is not even related. There is something wrong with this.

Guys I have to be honest here. I'm so tired of having this truck in the shop. I love this truck and now I've got it just how I wanted it. Hell, I just put brand new Nitto Terra Graplers on 500 miles ago. But the problems I've had and MONEY I've sunk ino this truck; just not acceptable. I thinking of going to a 2010 of the same style but with a v-10. I hate to say that but damn, I can keep doing this. Any input on the V-10 Ford Engine...?

:hehe::hehe::hehe:

10 MPG empty, and down hill from there with ever pound added. I wouldn't let this get you down. Sometimes things go wrong, it just happens. But its clear to me the dealer is trying to screw you. I would take it somewhere else that will actually help you rather than try to f you.

That is absolutely a suspect diagnosis. With very few exceptions, only one thing will generally break at a time in anything. Sure, there can be cascading failures ... but I highly doubt that in this case. Take your truck back and flick them off. Tell them they could also make a profit by offering honest repair services to customers they intend to keep.

I had a Ford dealer diagnose a intermittent no-start and engine dying issue as a glow plug problem! (it turned out to be a bad performance chip that only worked sometime) They concluded that I should replace _every_ component of the glow plug system ... and said it was the reason why my truck might die without a struggle sometimes when first put into Drive ... and why it would sometimes not start at all (not start as in no injection, not struggling to start). I fixed the glow plug issue separately by ... get this ... replacing the Glow Plug Relay. And I fixed the no-start issue by removing the performance chip.

Dealers are getting more and more crooked everyday.

Dealers are getting more and more crooked everyday.

The Less they make on new car sales, the more they gotta make out in the service bays...Those Multi Million dollar lots don't pay for themselves ya know
And No, I'm not saying this is right, or should be done...personally I think its really crummy!

Sounds like its time for a different repair shop..

Without any kind of technical explanation behind the quote, I call it "shotgun" diagnostics. Is this an early-build or late-build '04 model year? What is the mileage?

I don't have a problem with multiple parts being replaced, if it is to save on potential future issues that may arise, but again I would be more comfortable if there were some legitimate technical explanation behind the need for each part to be replaced.

This truck was manuf in early 04, come to think of it this thing was built 12-03. I've just about got my mind made up to get rid of it. I bought it may of 08' and it has been in the shop 6 times. Jeez I hate to say it but this PSD I have is a POS. I love this truck but I think its time to make it someone elses problem...

I agree with the others....take it to a recomended shop. Ask around. or even check the foroums for a reputable dealer or shop to take it to. I owned a 2000 V10 excursion for a short while....with in the 6 months I had it, I spent well over 1000.00 in repairs....igniton coils being replaced, universals, not to mention the fuel milage sucked! I towed my 96 f250 with it 1 time, yea it towed the truck great, but at the cost of 7 mpg.....I'll keep my 7.3 (shes down at the moment...oil/fuel issue and a no start issue)

I'd ask to talk to their diesel technician and get him to walk you through exactly what is wrong with it with the truck right there in front of you so he can point at it. If they won't, get it out of there and tell em they just lost money.
If they don't have a diesel tech at all, get it out of there, tell em they lost a LOT of money, and complain about it to the BBB or something that they tried to work on your diesel truck without a diesel tech.

Just a little update here guys. I did it... I traded it off. I just could not see spending that kind of money as often as I have. BUT, I stayed with the Power Stroke!!! I got a 2010 F-250 Superduty Lariat Supercrew FX4 with that 6.4L PS. I don't know much about the 6.4L but I've not heard anywhere near the amount of bad things about the 6.4L that I have about the 6.0L. So that's where I'm at now. I'll have to change my pics and stuff now I guess. I just could not get the power stroke out of my system :)

Its not just crooked, but they train them to be crooked!!! I have been a ford tech, and a ford salesman for the last 10 years. The dealerships are hook, crook, or rook. Look, most of them are not selling new cars, and the only way they keep the doors open, is by what they steal coming in the back door, which is the shop. I can tell you horror stories about what these dealerships are doing to survive. As a salesman, I have heard the owner say these words to the service people. Make the repairs so high, they cannot afford to do anything, but trade it in and buy a new one, (if its out of warrenty).
The next thing, they charge us 75-100 bucks an hour for repairs, and pay the techs 10-12 bucks an hour and thats flat rate!!! That does not count the screwing these guys get on the flat rate warrenty work, which is about half of what straight time is!!!!! Most dealers cannot keep a good tech, as he will walk, to a private shop, or his own shop. Ford is starvin these guys to death, in an attempt to keep the overpriced product selling, and overpaid owners-rich!!!!! you need a good private shop if you can find one.

One last thing, ford is coming out with an all new engine in 2011. I think its called the scorpion, and it gets rid of this stupid powerstroke, hydrolic powered injector system, and goes to the bosh 30,000 psi eletronic system. Why ford and ihc, thought this hydrolically controlled injection system was anything but crap, is beyond me. No-one else has touched it.

Cat actually developed it. And the 6.4 in the 08s weren't HEUI either. So . . . yea. :dunno:
Awesome on the trade up. Sorry you had so much trouble. Let us know how ya like it :thumb:

Hey guys, I have a pic here of the new truck. So far guys, I'm lovin this 6.4L. It seems the more I drive it the better it gets. I was thinking that I would have to buy another programmer but I'm not sure now. This truck seems to have plenty of get up and go when I want it :)

Code....Curious did you get the new 6.4 from the same dealer that was trying to F you?....What was your price OTD?...I've been thinking about laking the leap myself!

I wasn't sure about doing anything with the exhaust. The DPF is near the rear section of the exhaust right? And where is the DOC... I'm not familiar with the term. I've averaged right at 15mpg so far. I must say that my 04 6.0L got 18-20 with the programmer on it. So is it possible to cut the exhaust on this truck with out harming the computer?

If you intend to remove the diesel particulate filter (DPF), you'll need a
tuner. Otherwise the system will go into continuous regeneration mode,
trying to clean a filter that is no longer there. Plenty of info in the
6.4L section of the .Org.

You'll also want to carefully consider the possible warranty ramifications
if you remove the DPF and add a tuner.

OK guys, I did buy this truck at the same dealership. The sticker price was $55,850. I got the truck for $44,900. Out the door price was $52k with the tax, title and license. I've done some looking around and with the options on this truck I don't believe that I got hurt on this new truck. They gave me $11k for my other truck I still owed $8,150. I was thinking more like $14k but with the work that needed to be done and the money I owed for the tow and diagnosis, I think $11K was almost fair...lol.
