Best place in Texas to have a Cummins swap done in my 6.0?

Yup - saving my pennies to have it done. The 6.0 was strong and fun but not strong enough for me I guess and I've lost faith in the motor. LOVE the rig, just tired of the 6.0 "issues".
Anyone know a good place to have it done down Texas way?

I'm thinking the CR but I need to read up on them some more.

Subscribing... Not sure about Texas but I know a very good place in Geneseo, IL. Alan. Gotta warn you it's not cheap otherwise I'd have done it myself... :hehe:

Drive it up and fly home... Fly back up and drive it home.
Any ballpark idea? :)

i know destroked.com says about 10 grand in parts (5k for an engine, more for a newer lower mileage engine) and 4500-6500 for labor......me personally, if i were to ever do a fummins...it'd be an old 12 valve. bulletproof engine, no electronics, etc. and you can get quite a bit of power out of them. But if you want to stay in texas I would go with Diesel Innovations in Houston, Cen Tex diesel or truck source diesel in San Antonio

I don't know - its all up in the air now. It looks like Tracie may get a new job that would double her salary and I should be getting a promotion and raise in April (hopefully), so I may just get all I want off the rig, do my research and find a brand diesel that can handle my driving, being it Ford, Dodge, or Chevy.

Trust me I would love NOTHING more than to keep my rig but the motor now has me worried, and I'll be out of warranty after this weekend. What happens then if it takes a sh!t on me? I'll be out a ton of cash I could have put into another rig..........:dunno:

How do ya'll get by DMV/EPA (or whoever it may concern for registration) with that older eng. in a newer truck? Isn't that supposed to be a illegal? Or is there a special provision for diesels?

Mine is out of warranty as of last month, I took it in for the EGR cooler, and it had expired the day before.

Even IF I had to to a total motor replacement, it's just cheaper to keep her. For the cost of a down payment on a new truck, I can have a brand new shiny motor installed. and not be starting over at the bottom again. That, and they don't make the EX anymore, so my options are nill.

I've been doing a little number crunching too, and it seems that the lower geared trucks ( in stock form anyway ) have far fewer failure rates.

I'm allready running 35's on an Excursion, and pulling a 10k trailer 1k miles a day on a regular basis. So I consider my case to be high risk anyway. I think I might be doing well to swap from 3.73's to 4.56.

I ran the numbers again, with 35's 4.13 was optimal, (4.10)

if I switch back to 36-37's 4.33

We have 7 powerstrokes in the family, all of the 300k plus trucks are 4.11 or higher, just an observation.

and it appears I have succesfully hi-jacked yet another thread, my apologies Allan
