I was scrolling through the parts catalog at work today and came across a intake heater?? I have a Ford and Motorcraft part number and its still availble through Ford. Where is it located? Do they go bad often? Possible help for the cold weather no start?
I took mine out. I live just north of Atlanta, GA so an intake heater is not really necessary. Instead I got a plug and adapter and used the port to feed my manual boost gauge. It's very clean looking and some say it works better than the 'T' fitting that most boost gauges come with.
The AIH also is said to restrict up to 20% airflow through the intake manifold, and after pulling it out, i realized it is quite large. I have one if you want it, though i doubt it will fit your truck. Not sure though.
Here is a good link that will explan your intake heater without me having to go into detail lol. Alos there is a pic that shows you where it is located. As far as personal use. Everyone I know takes theres out and has no problem with cold starting. Hope this helps.
That is on a 7.3L Power stroke... I have a Non powerstroke, no turbo, completely different. Does anyone know if there is one on the 7.3IDI? Again my parts catalog shows one for a 1983-1994 but I haven't had a chance to look at my engine.
