Went to my dealer and they wanted 72.00+tax for fuel filters..Went to another ford dealer around 4 miles away from them and they wanted 72.40+tax:crazy:.......Seems kinda high...There is a guy on ebay selling filters for 22.99+6.00 for shipping and it says motorcraft, anyone seen these?
I'm gonna say no because the ad doesn't say motorcraft on it and the small filter doesn't have the water seperator screen.
International filters are identical to ford (same supplier) for less money. The part # is on this site somewhere.
Go to advance and buy the motorcraft filters there, I do, a lot cheaper than dealer .I tried the cheaper way the filters wouldn't even fit on the caps correct, took em back and will stay with motorcraft for now on.
PS the guy on e-bay is not telling you everthing
not saying there motorcraft but using a part number
but saying they fit a 6.0 powerstroke
just not tellin you everything
A GOOD SELLER ON EBAY DICLOSES ALL AND GIVES LOTS OF INFO TO MAKE A GOOD INFORMED DESICISION.

Went to advance auto and got motorcraft filters for 49.99,,thx jer1........got the top one in no problem,it was BLACK and actually twisted from being so clogged I guess..The bottom one I got so pissed I had to stop.I was on the ground and trying to get it with the crossmember and the front driveshaft in the way I had bloody knuckles.I actually broke the ratchet and you can only move the cap like a 1/4" at a time..What a pita!!!!...I'll try again tomorrow when I get my sanity back,lol....any tricks for this?
You need to use the drain plug on the one under the truck ,it's on the side I think it takes an allen wrench , put a bucket under it,I beleive that will let off pressure and a lot of fuel comes out, < it's on the fuel pump can't miss it>
I use a rachete and long extenstion with a socket to remove the cap, it's still a ***** but works. Once you get it all back together cycle the key try and start and if it doesn't keep running cycle the key for fuel pressure turn off pop the hood and genlty open < Very little bit>> the fuel cap on top just let the air out retighten, and recycle the key and should fire right up ,if it runs ruff the 6.0 will get all the rest of the air out on it's own in a bit.

I have never used one before...I get mine changed at the dealer due to my warranty...but a friend of mine runs a parts store....they sell Wix filters...and he pulled out the Kit...and they looked just like the motorcraft ones...even the big one has the membrane on it for the water separator. just like the motorcraft..they sell a bunch of them to Fed-Ex here in town....a set cost 36.00...

Thanks jer-1,I thought it would be easier but it is very tight under there to get my paw like hands,lol.....I will drain it first,I did not realize it would relieve some of the pressure:thumb:
Looks can be deceiving.... It's been said before and I'll say it again...I would rather spend an extra $20 on a known filter for such an expensive engine!
We stock the Racor oil and fuel filters which is the company who makes them for Ford. Let me know if I can help, these are both on the shelf. If you order $50 worth, shipping is free.
Using the Racor filters would not give any reason for the dealer to void a warranty if they wanted? I normally use the MC ones, but money is a little tight right now, so if the Racor's are of the same quality and fit as MC, I'm gonna have to go with it
Replaced the fuel filters on my '04 Excursion and after a few tanks of fuel, it seems my mileage is down some. Was getting about 13 in the city, now it's about 10-11 mpg. Anybody else have a similar situation? Did I do anything wrong?
After I replaced them, I cycled the key a few times and the truck started right up. Didn't even run rough. Haven't had any issues with yet either. Just the mileage seems lower (calculated).
I have a hwy trip planned for this weekend and will record the mileage there (was getting 15.5 mpg hwy). We had a trip this past weekend, but we were towing a travel trailer so I couldn't get accurate numbers (although the computer was saying 10+ mpg).
Doubt its anything you did. My guess, the fuel. Did you fuel up at a different station this last time? Maybe they are running winter fuel, this will decrease your mpg, but I don't know that they will use winter fuel in TX :dunno:. It has been cold there though, so maybe they filled their tanks with it instead
I have been running them for 27K miles. I had a period in Fall 08 where I was running Biodiesel as the temps dropped in Oct and waxed 3 filters in a month. The filter on the frame rail caught all of it, though I changed out both filters. I'm still running the same injectors and there is no problem with them. I change the filters out at 10k miles as as rule. They work fine.
