I am not the expert that some on here are. But, I bought a 04 F350 crew cab and about a month after I bought my truck it started running like crap. Hard starting, rough idle, poor acceleration, and when on the highway it felt like it had a stumble or a miss. So I asked a friend of mine who runs a fleet of 6.0's in some mini-coach bus's. He told me that they were having the same problems with their 6.0's until they started running a product called REV-X performance oil additive. After the first couple of hundred miles he could see a difference in the way that the vehicle's run. They start better, idle better, and seem to have more all around power. Best of all you can double your drain intervals. So he gave me some to try, and told me if it doesn't help my truck run better I didn't have to pay for it. I paid him 70 bucks for the product that he gave me.
So I'm about 9000 miles in on that oil change, and I have to let you guys know about this product. I now have none of the issue's that I was having with my truck. It starts almost instantly, idles smooth, and seems to have more power all the way around. Oh, and that stumble/miss on the highway is gone!
I will say this if you are having any of the issues that I was having with your truck/van. Try this product! If you don't you will be spending alot of money to fix these issues. I was quoted buy the dealer $5500-8500 to fix the issues. TRY IT! You will not be let down!
Are you part of the lubrication specialties crew that has been flooding this forum and other forums about how great these additives are? Conspiracy!!! Just kidding but it sure feels like it lol.
BUT in all fairness if it's not: What kind of oil were you running before and are you running with the additive?
Were you changing fuel filter, oil filter?
Looking at the MDS it doesn't sound very impressive. Nearly half of it is cheap off the shelf stuff. Adding mineral oil is about as old as the engine itself. I don't want to knock something to badly I haven't tried but reading its makeup I don't see anything revolutionary.
You're going to run conventional oil with some magic bull**** additive in it that's likely beating the injection system to DEATH for NINE THOUSAND MILES?!
You run it for NINE THOUSAND MILES between oil changes and wonder why it runs like ****.
I didn't know I would get flamed like this, but I just thought you guys might just want to know about someone having good luck with a new product. I am not trying to sell anything here. I am not part of this company. But now that you mention it that is the company that makes this product. I just read it on the back of the bottles I just bought.
Nope, not spam either.
The previous owner of the truck ran only Rotella T. So since this is the oil that has been run in the truck since new, I figured that I would continue running the same oil. The previous owner was changing the oil every 5k. Now I am running 10k drain intervals, and filter changes. Yes, that is fuel and oil.
Now for the most interesting part. I did change the oil a little early this week at 9550 miles.
You guys might think this is just a load of B.S. but since I had the oil tested at a local testing facility. I think you might want to know that the oil at 10k tested better than the oil at 5k. Iron content dropped from 112 ppm to 66ppm, aluminum dropped from 3ppm to 1ppm, Lead dropped from 21ppm to 11ppm.
My truck has only been running better and better. Maybe I am just a sucker? But to me the proof is in the pudding. And the numbers don't lie. I am going to be running their fuel additive next. I will let you know exactly what I find.
after reading this post i got a little curious, so i pulled up my oilscan history for my 07 and 20ppm of iron was the highest @ 7500mi., lowest was 9ppm.
now you should be very proud of the fact that you lowered the ppm of iron almost half, but it still seems very high to me.
i'm due for a oc within the next few weeks and sample at that time. i use deere plus 50 15w-40, the high ppm # was on rts 5w-40, and now i am going to use deere plus 50 10w-30 for winter and maybe beyond
1. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. (maybe this is as good as you say)
2. You've only got 3 (as of this writing) posts. So showing up with a 'You-gotta-try-THIS' message gives reason to pause. If this had come from somebody who's been on here a while with a reputation of giving good advice, the message would probably would have been received better. No reflection on you as a person, but we don't know you......yet.
Don't feel you have run off because of a little caution on our part. We're always lookin' for new members. Jump in, have fun and enjoy the ride!!!
The name on the back of the bottle is Lubrication Specialties. Not "Hot Shots". Here is their website if you wanna check it out. revxoil.com. Like I have said before I am not an expert on diesel engines. But the guy I got this product from is an expert on diesel engines and has been working in the diesel industry for 30+ years. This is the second diesel pick up that I have owned. The first being a 98.5 dodge 24 valve cummins. Great truck. just time to move on to something different. As far as getting technical in the diesel realm, I will leave that to the experts.
seems pointless to add anything to the oil. to much of a risk. if the additive is so great why dont they formulate their own oil? i would be more willing to try a oil that and additive.
Why is "Lubrication Specialties" making two competing products under two different names? One product they sell you a 4oz bottle, the other they sell you a gallon. Sound fishy? Perhaps the stuff works to some degree, but his marketing strategy makes me very suspicious. As with his other product no scientific data to show it actually works which in my book cast the most doubt. A chemical engineer (who's work is based on science) and yet won't use science to prove his product works? You decide.
ok i know i may not have enough posts on here to be reputable but heres my .02 on this product. the ceo of this company has been to my shop in fl more than once . he lives in mich. he have done dyno testing , ( let me figure out how to post files on here and i will post some back to back runs with time date humidity barometric press. and all that info on it ) and i have 6.0's stacked up at my shop like pringles . everyone gets the product before it leaves because the stuff works. i was a skeptic atfirst then i used it in all of our pull trucks . the fords made the biggest difference . i have sold this product to many people who didnt have the money to buy a replacement injector at the moment and within 2min of run time the miss was gone. hmm..... snake oil? no. this stuff is real. so all you guys who are bashing this product need to calm down a bit and either try it and see for your self, or quit talking smack because your probably just some dude with a programmer and a cool set of wheels and now that you blow smoke you know everything about a diesel. give me a few hours and i will figure out how to pull files off my computer and upload them here about this .
Ed if you can't get them posted send them over and I'll throw them up for ya. jeff.peterson2 at gmail.com If you can show some proof it works that would be great. As I mentioned before neither of his sites have posted anything factual for results which as you can understand cast doubt.
I think HSS and Rev X are two different "Lubrication Specialties" companies. One is in Grand Rapids, MI, the other is in Mt. Gilead, OH. They also list different President/CEO. They are only a 5 hour drive apart though, so who knows. My guess is one is trying to copy the other and gain off their business.
There are a couple of guys over on powerstrokenation that supposedly tried Rev-x for cold start issues and they said it helped and or solved the problem. Could be a conspiracy, i don't know...........
But, I just bought 2 bottles online for around $70.00 and will be adding it in on my next oil change to see if it helps my cold start issues.
BTW I run Delo 400 15w40 and change @ 3000mile intevals.
I'll let you guys know in the next week or so what happens.
These are some of the problems I was having. I am glad to see that someone else is using this product too. My truck is running awesome! That's all I can say! The fuel additive seams to be working really good too. More power, and better mileage. Try it you won't be dissapointed! I am really satisfied with these products.
Thats some pricey stuff. Rev-X < fuel and oil additive >
I just ordered standlyne performance formula fuel additive, think I'll give that a try first being it's make by and injector pump and injector maufacture they I'm sure should know what these big bad machines need most.
