i just bought a 5" stack kit from sbs diesel and now waiting for my full 4" but was wanting to know do i need to secure my stacks or y pipe to my bed or do i just let the exhaust hold its self, pics would help much thanks
I found some pics where some guys u-bolted the ypipe down to the bed. But for mine I just clamped all the joins real tight and secured the stacks to the bed...
I would HIGHLY recommend finding a truck parts store and getting peterbilt stack clamps to hold them to the bed. I'm still using the tab with band clamp method and really want to switch eventually but the clamps are 80$ a piece! Also, i recommend the band clamps used for semi-exhaust as well instead of ubolts to hold everything together, so much cleaner, better sealing, and doesnt mangle the joins so its easier to work on in the future...
Good luck with the install and post some pics for us!
i got the easy seal 5" and 4" strap style clamp for a semi exhaust, but u dont recomend just the u bolts... dose the flex pipe let the pipe move when the motor twist
You will need to secure them to the bed somehow. Picture it as two separate pieces. The piece that goes from the turbo to the flex pipe, then the piece that goes from the flex pipe into the bed and the stacks. The flex pipe is there to allow the two separate pieces to move from each other. Without supporting the stacks in the bed, they will flop all over, since the flex pipe wont hold it rigid.
Rubenk, you have a pic or a link to these clamps? I've got the MBRP setup in my truck now and dont like how the stacks are secured to the bed
I dont have my ypipe secured to the bed, just the stacks and the exhaust hangar under the bed and I definitely cant move it by hand, so they dont "flop" all over.
sbs diesel sell claps just like that and they also have black... so which way is better clamp the stack to the bed rail or put saddle clamps on the ypipe, grand rock stacks say to do both i find this over kill
Sry, didnt answer your question in my last post...
IMO, at the very least clamp the stacks. If you only clamp the ypipe then the stacks will probably be crooked and potentially wobbly. If you have the stacks firmly in place and all the exhaust clamps tight everywhere else, i dont see anything going anywhere....
I still recommend the peterbilt style clamps, I think it would be impossible to get the stack crooked as long as you have a straight bed and will actually hold it in place compared to the tabs....
The clamps that ruben shows is what works best. As long as you clamp the actual stack with those clamps you dont have to work about drilling Anymore into your bed. That was how my dual stacks ran and now my single stack, my stacks looked straight when I had duals and never moved.
