Going hunting in 2 weeks and were taking my truck. Its suppose to be in the 40s during the day and I wont have a place to plug it in. Any recommandations on what to do when I try to start it in the morning?
eeek. what weight oil are you running? Sounds like you mjight have some issues.. im spoiled to live in california it dont get below 30 at night very often here.
I'm assuming you're headed up in the mountains? I always drop about half a quart of powerservice anti gel forumula in my tank before heading up. When I go to start it I let the glow plugs cycle twice in cold weather. Key on until wait to start goes out, then key off and on again. I've never had an issue up top and I doubt you will either. Just make sure you use the powerservice or similar anti gel fuel additive.
You shouldn't have any problems getting it started(that's why they put a GP system on our trucks). I'm assuming that the fuel stops in Denver have their winter blend fuel already, but it won't hurt to put in some fuel additive with anti-gel.
I properly working GP system will start a truck down to -20 degrees, so I would make sure your GP system is working properly, I have a write up in the maintenance section that I hope somebody will make a sticky!!!! We have radio rebates as a sticky but not something useful??????
Treating the fuel with some anti gel would be a great idea, especially if you bought fuel where it is warmer.
+1 for some good antigel and having a bottle on hand of 911 wouldn't hurt. If you're due for an oil change, i'd consider refilling with 5-40 syn for the cold months.
My 01 started without question all winter last year unplugged. -Cycling the glows twice on the really cold days.
You should be fine. Worst case, you may have to wait until the temp rises later in the day if you do end up having issues.
-wouldn't worry too much about it and enjoy your trip.
Lastly: carry an extra fuel filter just in case. It's unlikely you'll need it if you use an anti-gel treatment before bringing your rig to the cold weather, but keep one with you......better to be safe than sorry.
thanks for the advice i m going to read your write up and check me glow plugs when I get home, it has a hard time starting if it wasn't plugged in. My light stays on for a bit and I can hear my glow plug relay click. I'm running 40w should I heard to switch to 30w. Is this true?
