That lower one can be a pain to get to. I got drenched with fuel when I did mine. By the way how many mile intervals should the fuel filter be changed.,.....5k

How much diesel comes out of the lower filter when you open the drain plug? Wondering how big of a catch pan I need. Hoping to change mine on Sunday.

What size allen wrench is used for the plug. I've got a PDF of the fuel filter change procedure from Ford and in the steps it says 6mm, but in the list of required items at the end, it says 3/4" allen wrench? 6mm is close to 1/4", far from being 3/4"?

When I changed mine it was a few pints that came out it is way easier to pull the plug and drain it then taking the filter off to drain it.

Try, cutting to fit/size, something along the lines of a plastic detergent/bleach type bottle with an appropriate hanger for spillage of the lower fuel filter then you'll never have a problem or mess not to mention it is very easy to recyle the fuel into a reserve tank if desired..at least that is what I do..each to their own.

You can also buy a screw from ebay (and maybe from some where like Pepboys) that has a knob on it so you can unscrew it by hand instead of using the 6mm allen. The advantage of that is mainly for the 4x4 trucks with the forward drive axel.
Mine just got delivered this week, along with upfitter switches:), from powerstrokeshop.com

Changed mine over the weekend, wasn't too bad, will be easier next time with the new plug. Cut up a one gallon milk jug to catch most of it...it did but some still ran down the frame. Only put a few inches, maybe 3, in the milk jug.

I do mine every 10 or earlier. Changing the filters puts allot of air bubbles through the injectors so I put poor 2-stroke oil on the filters and in the filter bowl. not too much tho. and a good amount of Lucas in the tank.
