Again, new to the diesel scene. I would like to make the exhaust louder and more efficient at the same time. What purpose does an exhaust tip serve? Only decor? What is a good entry level exhaust system that will serve both of the purposes I am looking for?
MBRP 4" all the way down to the tip, 5". Tip is mainly for decor since most exhaust tubing isn't the prettiest of things to look at. Might help with flow a tiny tiny bit.
You don't say which year vehicle you have, but let's look at the '08 or newer. On these vehicles, the exhaust tip is supposed to help cool down the exhaust prior to exiting as the exhaust temperatures are extremely high.
On earlier vehicles, they may just be for looks.
I have a Banks 4" from DPF back, been very happy with the look and sound. The MBRP gets allot of praise as well as the FloPro (not sure on the exact name). Going to a 5" won't do much other then make the sound a little deeper, but if you have a DPF, you won't notice much at all.
It does make a slightly louder tone but mostly for looks
