I thinking of getting one installed b/c living in AK you need one. Is there anything to worry about with a diesel that's different then gas? Thanks in advance.
Make sure the remote start unit is set for a delay, i.e. the glow plugs need a chance to cycle before the truck is cranked.....most remote start units that are diesel compatible provide this, being in a colder climate also check to make sure the wait to start interval is set long enough to allow the glow plugs to do their job, 15-30 seconds probably 30 seconds for the climate you are in.
if you get one and i recommend it, they are nice; if you got it rig up your heated seats to like Up fitter switch 4 or what ever, and flick it up after you get out of the truck so when you auto start it the seats will start to warm up
I had the Ford auto-matic starter installed on my truck before I took delivery and it work's great in all temperature's even down in -30c up hear in Canada. Cost me about $500 installed. I hear that Ford has a new style that will tell you that the vehicle has started with a flashing blue light on the remote.
Viper 5901. Configurable auto-start delay, optional integration into the wait to start dash indicator. I use the delay function, haven't tried hooking up the indicator wait input. Works great.
started a thread in the electronics section "how to wire your heated seats and SEIC to your remote starter"
