Hi justinmix, a while back you walked me through a problem I was having with my '96 7.3. Here is my latest problem. This past summer I didn't drive my truck for about 2 weeks. When I tried to start it...no go. Discovered the high-pressure oil pump reservoir was empty. Filled it, she fired right up. Now (in the cold Wisconsin winter) with regular driving she starts fantastic (It's plugged in on cold nights). After about 10-15 seconds it dies. She'll fire up again and run for about 5 seconds the 2nd time and die. It runs shorter with every try until it just turns over with no fire. Reason being...the HPOP reservoir is empty again. I can usually get it going by filling it back up again but I can't keep going like this. Have you experienced or heard of a problem like this before? I would appreciate your thoughts as to what the problem is and what repair needs to be made. Thanks Dale

One other guess would be something with the crank sensor. It's located right behind the AC compressor. Maybe messing around with the compressor jarred something or agitated some bad wiring. If the PCM doesn't see both cam and crank signal it won't try and fire. Unfortunately you will need a scan tool capable of reading data to diagnose this. You need to watch the PID FICM SYNC and see if it changes from no to yes during cranking. If it doesn't then you have a cam/crank sensor issue.

While you would think this would log a code right away it won't. Sometimes you have to crank on it for a very long time before it will log a code, if it even does.

Man, that sound like a crappy run of luck there. The AC compressor is a total pain to get to on these trucks.

Does it even attempt to start or is it smoking at all when cranking? The KAM code is nothing, that's just because you had the batteries cables off.

If it's not smoking at all when cranking then the injectors are not firing at all. The PCM has to see 500 psi of ICP pressure before it will even try and fire the injectors electrically. Sounds like the FICM and low pressure oil system are ok. Do you hear the fuel pump running at all when you first turn the key on? You should hear it run for about 45 seconds when you first key on.

The a/c pulley bearings went out and locked up and would not let the engine turn over so i took the belt of and it cranked and started fine. Now i get in to the process of taking the comppressor off and i removed the transmission filter, fan clucth, fan shroud, the ground wire to the block and the of course the comppressor. That was a job. Any way i remove the old pulley and then i let the compressor slip and i poked a hole in the radiator. So i remove it and take it to the shop for repair. I get it back 3 days later and the truck sits for another 5 days before i can put it back together. Well i got it all back together today and tried to start and nothing. It cranked fine but now start. So after some more research i checked all the fuse, all good. I checked the FICM voltage and it is at 48.6 volts when swicthed on and whille cranking. Oil level is good. Oil pressure gauge comes up after 10 seconds of cranking.

I have been a long time lurker on here and got some great advise from reading yours and everyone else post. i created a account on here today because i am having problems with my 03 6.0 f350. I start from the being with what i have done. We coming home from work and the a/c went out no biggie in 110 degree weather. Anyway i didnt have the money to put in it right then so we just rolled the windows down. A week later leaving work and the engine stalled and shut down in the road and we coast into a nearby parking lot. got the truck homeand start some trobleshooting. It wouldnt even turn over once. Replaced the batteries and still nothing. So i got on the fourms researhed some and found the problem. part 1 of 2

Hey Rick, just finally logged on here and saw your messages. Sorry, don't have time to get on here nearly as much since I've been so busy.

Got the heads pulled off today. I did do a pressure test on it before hand and found the passenger side head cracked. I'm just going to replace both heads with my spare heads that I've already had checked out. Going to start going back together with it tomorrow.

Again, I apologize for not responding sooner. Had no idea you'd left me a message. Guess it doesn't notify me when I have a guest message. In the future if you have any questions PM me or just text or call me.

    Het Justin,
Rick again with the 05 EX. 6.0 I picked up yesterday. FYI the engine light came on yesterday on the way home. pulled it into my shop this am to check things over. Appears to be oil in coolant! Hope Im wrong. Got underneath and traced an oil leak to pass. side cylinder head. Needless to say I am concerned. I trust you guys based on gut and what I have read on here but have a hard time believing you dont know about this. Steve told me that you go through every vehicle as it comes in. Again, I am really concerned and need some feedback from you. Thanks
