New Spartan 210 tune can't get over 29psi of boost!

I just switched to Spartan from Bully Dog. Installed a 5" downpipe back Flo-Pro exhaust and the Spartan 210 tune. I just got it wide open and I couldn't get it to boost over 29 psi. This seems low to me.:dunno:

I know I had my Bully Dog with DPF on and boosted over 36 psi like 2 days ago. Shouldn't this Spartan be getting me up around 40 psi at least???

Please let me know if this is expected...if not...what could be the cause of such low numbers?

Well...I may have figured this out on my own. I loaded the 175 tune and just got back from a quick drive and noticed a huge difference. It smoked alot more...and boosted quickly to 39 psi.
Much more like what I was expecting to get from Spartan!:thumb:

I also found on the forum search tool that the 210 engages the EGR. So is this why it won't boost as much? Or smoke as much? Why does the 210 do this? I love they way it shifted and seemed to get great fuel economy. The 210 is probably going to be my everyday driving tune, but just wish I could get it to boost more.

Anyone have any input?

Hmm that's interesting but I have no clue what to tell you. If it engages the EGR then that COULD drop your boost and smoke but I don't think that much. I'd just keep bumping your thread until one of the experts jumps in on this.

I know I have read somewhere that guys were getting over 40 psi on the 210. Does the 250 or 275 tune engage the EGR?

Once again, what is the benefit of engaging the EGR? Is it dangerous to block it off with the plates I have seen for sale?

There might be something wrong with your 210 tune. You might log it and sent it to spartan to see what's going on. The 275 tune eliminates the EGR unless at idle. idk about the 250. The 310 eliminates it completely. There is no benefit horsepower wise from the EGR. And no there's no worries in the block-off plates. I have them but I run the 275 tune which eliminates it anyway. Its more of a preventive because EGRs are common of blowing up and sending shards into the block and other important stuff

How difficult is it to install the block-off plates? Easily accessible?

Actually...I wouldn't be able to use them with a tune that doesn't eliminate it, right? Do they have to come back out when going back to stock?

They arent bad to install. The hardest part is just getting the holes lined up and having the right tools. And I'm not sure about running them with the 210 tune. Idk if that would be bad or not. I can find out or maybe someone will chime in. I'm surprised they havent already

The lower tunes boost harder because the egr is turned on . but the 210 the torque converter locks at 50 under light pedal and if u ease into it u will see 39 psi, basically under load is where the 210 comes to life . its not a full race tune like the 250 275 310 but shares some characteristics like the torque converter locking and the egr being off . now you will notice the egr cycles at idle on any tune 210 and above . its a nice tune the power is there believe me . its a good tune i run it and have had no problems and so do alot of other members. its not good to run all that soot through the motor all the time but thats your decision 210 all the way here

Thanks Mxr695. I will reload the 210 this weekend and get it up to 50mph and see what it can do. Most of my driving is around town so I like the response from the 175. Does the 250 tune (that will soon become available for free for us guys running 210 and under:thumb:) boost quickly like the 175?

I guess I had it backwards then...the egr ON is what makes it boost so quick.

So when you say "soot running through the motor" you mean when the egr is on? Is that another reason to delete it?

So the 250 also eliminates the EGR? Does that mean it won't spool as quick either? I like the smoothness of the 210 but the in town driving of the 175...hopefully the 250 will satisfy both!

The 250 275 310 hit hard because at WOT the torque converter is locked so it moves. and if im not mistaken the fuel curves throttle response is all different and so much more , u have to remember these are full race tunes , the 210 is a tamed daily driver tune with alot of the stock safety features. my next tune will be the 250 . on the 210 i cant get it to fully lock till like 80 if im at wot, usually though i just ease into it while its locked on the freeway then u see that boost climb very quickly . now if u have a job 1 truck lockup maybe a little later than 50. the egr is disabled on on 210 250 275 310 while driving at idle it cycles open then close, some guys use the plates some dont it wouldnt hurt by using them .

I put the 210 back in the truck and got it out and eased into it up to about 55 mph and when I felt the TC lock I laid into it hard and boosted to 36 psi before I had to slow down because of a car in front of me who probably crapped their pants seeing me barreling down on them like that! :eek:hnoes:

I still think it should boost well over 40 psi so I'll try again with more space next time!

This truck is so much fun now! I love the sound of the 5" pipes! Now I just can't wait for the 250 to become available with Spartan's update for 210 owners.

I have only seen 42 psi at max with the 210 tune. It is always under 40 psi when dirving around town. I have to roll into it from 75 mph for it to hit 40-42 psi. I also have the Elite 4" downpipe on my truck which provides for a little extra boost. I think if your seeing 38-40 psi with the 210 tune, your perfectly fine. If your running an older version of it you will see more along the lines of 45 psi like JMart

Im still running the first version. I tried all winter to get the updated versions. I finally gave up in May. I never could get a response from anyone @ Spartan. Once I heard of a 310 tune in development I knew there was no chance for me to get the updated 210. So now I am just waiting for the new downloads to come out so I can get it.

That is good to know...thanks.

I can't wait for the 250!

I tried the rolling into WOT from TC lockup today to see what I'd get...I got on the highway, waited for the lockup, hammered it, and it jumped straight up there. Topped at 48 psi!! Pretty sweet if you ask me

48 psi with the 210 tune? That's great!

Question: Will a new intake increase boost? I am still running the stock intake. I have heard that I could get the same performance from a OEM replacement high-flow filter alone rather than spending the money for a whole new intake. True?

What do you all recommend (in order) next for improving power and efficiency: EGR block off plates, 4" downpipe, intake, intercooler pipe replacement. Are any of these UNECESSARY?

#21 ·
Oh no sorry..that was with my 310 tune. EGR blockoff plates would be a good upgrade, not really an upgrade tho..more of a preventive. That intercooler pipe doesn't look/sound like its worth the money. Downpipe might do a little. Idk tho. You might get a little more out of a full CAI rather than just a drop in filter but it's just up to you. S&B are relatively cheap compared to everone else.

48 psi is all you will see with the production 310 file.

This thread is about the 210 tune though so lets not confuse the OP by posting boost numbers with other tunes. 38-42 psi is about all your going to see out of the 210 version that you have. Like JMart said, his 210 is the very first one out and thats why he sees 45 psi of boost. I am running the new 210 tune for the TCM currently and all I can see is 40 psi of boost and that is with the 4" downpipe on my truck.

Thanks 08stroker250. That answers my question...what I am experiencing is normal!

I see you're on right now and answering my questions on other threads too! I'm glad I found this forum...it has really helped me alot since I am so new the diesel game. Glad there is a place I can go to get good, honest answers from people who know what they're talking about because they actually have first hand experience.

Sometimes I feel I am asking too many questions! Thanks again.
