I was getting on the freeway the other day in my gas saver honda civic and a V10 F250 was getting on at the same time. It took off like a bat out of hell. On top of that it was lifted with 38" tires. It also had some top end freeway speed. It might have been turbo or supercharged..I heard a massive rush of exhaust gas trying to get out...no spooling sound or whine though. I always thought the V10's were slow?
I supercharged V10 will $hit and get......but as to why anyone would spend that kind of money on a gas guzzling, horrible sounding motor like that, I have no idea :dunno:
Some people just don't like diesels, no matter what you tell them; GM 5.7 diesels poisened that well many years ago and some can't let go. Others don't want to spend the extra coin since they may not tow that long or that far but need to pull something heavy. I agree, though, any V-10 sounds like a weed eater with asthma (especially the Triton).
There's a guy here driving a white 250 sitting on the biggest Michelins I've ever seen (rough terrain crash truck tires) and what has to be at least 15" of lift. Luckily, you can't hear the exhaust over the tires at speed!!!
lol @ the comments. Still I was impressed by how fast it was. Most the ones I've seen weren't impressive. Maybe the person dumped a **** load of cash in it like you said.
we all have our opinions but i have raced all 3 powerstrokes and a cummins 24 valve and the 6.7 cummins stock for stock the v10 is faster.but diesels have way more performance parts available
your truck is almost a thousand more and i have a supercab and plow frame, so lighter.but its a diesel site i mean im not trying to bad mouth anyones truck. its everyones personal taste. i have driven a crap load f 7.3s and it just dosent seem to be on tap. i mean my next is a 6.4 or 6.7 but for now im driving a 6.8 and loving it.
I think V10s are ok if you aren't going to be hauling. Once you tow something the fuel mileage goes down the drain. Thats the reason I got a diesel, I like getting more than 10 mpg.
yea i agree i was getting a 6.0 but im 16 and cant swing the upfront cost. my truck is retired form my dads company. i got it for 8 with 60 on the clock.
parasitical losses vary from motor to motor. A rotary motor is going to have different parasitical losses than a gasser. A diesel will have different losses from a rotary. Gassers to diesels etc.. they are all different due to different combustion methods, heavier/lighter rotating assemblies etc.. lots of factors.
Rotary engine??? That shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread let alone this entire forum. From my understanding the losses start from the flywheel back. The point is there is no way that truck loses 40% of its power from the motor to the wheels. Could you imagine buying a new car or truck thats advertised as having 362 hp breakin it in for 1000 miles and then dynoing it and 218hp pops up on the computer screen. I and I'm sure any other normal person would have a fit and drive straight to the dealer and demand they take the car or truck back.
Incorrect. It starts with the rotating mass. Rotaries have almost no parasitical loss, since the direction of the motor is going the direction of the driveshaft. Whereas our diesels and gassers have to transfer the upwards energy into a different type of momentum w/ the use of driveshafts, gears etc..
Well I had some fun yesterday w/ a v10 and figured it was relevant. At a stop light next to a v10. He had a supercab long box w/ some decent tires and wheels. Only obvious mod was dual exhaust. I wasn't sure if he was gonna take the bait, so I paused and he gunned it. He was about half a truck ahead of me. By time 2nd gear was out, I was side by side. I hit third gear and by the end of I'm a truck or so in front. By time I hit 4th gear I was a good 3 trucks ahead. I only have a DIY tymar and my muffler is cut out. I was pretty pleased. When we turned our own directions I gave him the thumbs up and in the rear view I saw him do the same.
