Hi everyone, well after hours online and on the road I have finally come to the conclusion that I am in the market for a 99-03 Excursion with the 7.2. I haul a 30 TT and will be hauling 4 kids so this truck is a good fit for our family. Now the questions, I am new to Diesel ownership and eevn owner ship of this big of a pass. carrier. What types of things should I look for in these trucks (good, bad and ugly) I am thinking I want to spend no more than 15 or 16 k. Any and all input is great! Thanks in advance

STAY AWAY FROM THE 7.2 LOL THE 7.3 IS THE ONE TO GET!! YOU WILL LOVE IT
:hehe: That's funny.

7.3L is a good motor. My parents have a 7.3 Excursion, has over 120k on it and runs great. No major issues. They also haul their TT with it every once in a while. (side note, their trailer mashes it pretty good, if they pulled with it All the time, they would need air bags to help)

As far as what to look for......I'll let some of the other guys chime in for specifics.

Good luck!

I tow with my F150 now with a load distributing and anti sway hitch I cant imagine towing any other way now. Eventhough the TT is 8k loaded the load distribution makes a huge difference in the ride of the truck and honestly towing in Oklahoma the anti sway makes all the diff in the world. So now onto what kinda things I need to look and listen for on these trucks.

You will love the Excursion!! I got mine for 15k with 69k miles about 6mo ago. I have about 88k today. Right now my only complaint is the Turbo surge while towing my TT. I just spent a grip to get the Dp tuner and Issporo guages and then I find I need a turbo housing, wicked wheel, or better turbo. The 7.3 tows like a dream stock if you only tow 55mph. I end up runnin about 70-75 and Turbo surges bad on steep hills. Other than that, I like my truck alot! This diesel thing is waaaay addicting................kinda like crack. Be prepared cuz I wasn't!!
