Ok... I bought a Tekonsha Envoy controller for cheap and I already have the factory ford tow plug and I see where it plugs in under the dash....My question is which wires go where?
The tow plug has a label that says
BROWN- Illumination (I am guessing this is not used)
DARK BLUE- Trailer electric brake feed
RED- Trailer electric brake control feed
WHITE-Ground
LT GREEN- Stop lamp feed to brake controller
The blue and red are confusing the hell outa me!
I understand the green and white ones but then it all falls apart.:dunno:
The ford wire colors are:
Red- Battery feed to brake controller
Blue- Brake output to trailer
Lt Green- Stop lamp feed to brake controller
White- Ground
Brown- Illumintion
The brown one is not used on most controllers.
I just found the same info on another site. I was getting confused when the ford plug says
DARK BLUE- Trailer electric brake feed
RED- Trailer electric brake control feed
How do you like it? Where did you mount it? I put mine just under the dash right below the pocket to the right of the steering wheel. I mounted it as "straight ahead" as possible and the tilt up is a little less than the natural curve under the dash. I hope it levels out ok. I rarely tow a trailer with brakes but i figure now i will be prepared.
Don't forget to put in the relays under the hood. Some of them were left out for the user to install , check your manual on this. You could trouble shot that one all day long. Good choice on the control unit.
Works great right there.. Just make sure that you read the directions well for setting the controller for the trailer. A power stop sounds ruff but you will see why when you need it the most. Once set I've never changed the setting. Happy towing.
Well its all wired up and I put the fuse in the spot in the under-hood fuse box that calls for the 30A Maxi fuse (per manual) but I dont have any type of light on the controller. There is no trailer connected to the truck.....does a trailer need to be connected just to get the controller to actually light up??
Usually yes. You can check to make sure you have power on the red wire. also check your brake signal pulse on the green wire and check the ground.
