hello everyone,
On DANA 80 differential in order to set the pinion depth by shimming, do you need to remove the pinion bearing? In another word do you have to take the pinion bearing out each time you shim the pinion to achieve required pinion depth? If the answer is yes, does it require hydraulic press to remove and put the bearing back each time you shim it? I am planning on changing my gear ratio to 3.73 from 3.54 but want to gather as much info to see whether I can do it on my own or take it to a shop.
Thanks for the info,
Isa

you can get a second bearing (or use the old one if you were planning to replace them) and use a die grinder and machine it just enough to slide on and off the pinion till you get the shims figured out then press on the good bearing...
